Thanks Les, The thing that intrigued me about them is that they said that they offer health insurance to the O/O. I sent them an email. It appears that ohio passed a law two years ago that allows companies to offer health insurance to its 1099 people at the company group rates.
I have always wanted to go the o/o route, but the insurance was a stopper.
What is it that you do not like about them?
I live 40 miles north of columbus.

Had a discussion with a fellow driver about pipe spools in the rub rail and running chain around them. I contend that the spools only welded on top and bottom are worthless for securing to. He says he does it all the time. I go around the stake pockets completely and hook back to the chain. He says you can crush the stake pockets and pop a chain. The stake pockets have about eight inches of weld on them compared to about two to two and a half inches of weld on the spools on my trailer. Who's more right. Please say me, please say me!

I don't care for how they will cut a rate in a heartbeat that's all.

I've never hurt a spool but I have crushed a pocket. Does your trailer give the load ratings for each point?

I never hurt a stake pockect. the way mine is welded on my 94' transcraft all steel flat. you can see how it could not hurt it. if wraping around the stake pocket crushes it try going under one side of pocket up thru the middle & hook on the other end. this way it is pulling up on one side of pocket, while pulling down on other side.

How you hurt a pocket is by slightly bending the lip, then a sidekit stake won't go in the hole without a hammer. I don't see the hangup with using the spools, it's their only purpose other than keeping the rub rail from being crushed.

I use a spool when it's in line with where I want to put my chain, I use a pocket when it is in line. It's really make no difference to me as if you secure properly it will not matter. Guys bending pockets and spools are WAY over tightening things.

This is why I like "J" hooks, they're always in the correct spot. I don't disagree with the over tightening thing. I bought a used flat a few years ago and decided to put a sidekit on it. Spend about 2 days grinding and beating the pockets back into shape so I could get the posts to slide in and out easily.
