I've been running 11 western for about 6 months now. I was told they start new drivers on the west coast on 11 western to keep them closer to home. The only states I've been to the last 6 months are Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, California, and Arizona. 80% of the time I'm running up and down I5 in California. I normally average 2500-3200 miles per week. Normally 300-800 mile runs, occasionally a 1000+ mile run.
I have home time this coming Thursday and plan on switching to all 48. I'd like to get more long runs. I started out at 26cpm and was told that I would get a 3 cent raise every 3 months for the first year and then after that raises are given depending on performance. I'm currently still only making 26cpm..... So I'll have to see about that as well. I'm about due for a 2nd raise and still havnt recieved my first one!

Holy cow! You need to find out about why it's so low. First time I started with SNI straight from school (two years ago), I was at .29, then .31 after about 3-4 months. I've heard of May trucking starting at .26, but never SNI.
-
Yea, I didn't really mind it because, well, I had a job. But now that I've been in the industry for a little bit I kinda get the feeling I'm not making enough for what I do
lol. And if you do the math, the difference between 26 cpm and 29 cpm is quit a bit, not to mention I should be up to 32 cpm here shortly.
If I get what I want I should have a decent check of 3 months of owed pay. -
Recruiter from Schneider told me OTR is .30 cpm.
-
That's what a few of my friends got - .30-31 fresh or .32-.33 with about 6 month experience.

Well now don't I feel screwed over even more

You should get a raise after 6 months and then after 1 year of service. After that it's annual and based on performance (i think). Anyway, they never are very clear about that, other than the first year's scheduled raises.
I started at 27 cents (w/ per diem), and after 6 months was bumped up to 31 cents on per diem. Add 2 cents if you opt out of the per diem. I should get another 2 cent raise on the first of March, then after that I don't know, think it's annual. -
Yeah straight out of school I was hired on at .28 per mile BUT the per diem management fee is .02 cpm so you are only getting .26 cpm. I can manage my own money so as soon as the 90 days was up I dropped per diem like a hot potato. To be fair it has its good points but it is not for me. Then after 6 months the raise is supposed to be automatic UNLESS you have had any preventable accidents in which case you stay at the starter cpm for another year. If you have no preventables after 6 months you get the auto raise (Or you're supposed to) then annually based on performance and discussion with your DBL.

I was told the same thing. I appreciate the heads up. I'll be sure to remind them of this promise!!

I'm off to orientation next week. I plan on leaving Sunday and taking 395 south ( WA to Southern CA ) pretty much the whole way. Mapquest routed me a bit different, it routed me more on interstates.
Does anyone know what 395 is like through Oregon, Nevada, and California? Is it pretty wide open or is slow with tons of towns and such?
