I am a newbie, who will be going solo in less then 3wks. I have been looking at the cooking in the truck and trying to sort out all the info, and there is pages of it.
My question to other drivers is this...
What is the most useful item to have if one is to cook in the truck? I understand a fridge/cooler is first n foremost for alot of meals, but what other items can save the most money?
I am on a limited budget and want to make the most of the money I do have for cookware. I have seen many things like the lunchbox stove, crock pots, coffee makers, grills. Was hoping to get some feedback on what items are most useful to help start me out. I am tired of gross TS food, and dont think TS think of drivers health. Lots of places that I have eaten at that has made me quite sick.

Fridge/cooler is number one I'd say, microwave second

Burton cooker!! Get the aluminum pans from Walmart though... Much cheaper than the ones you get at the T/S... Plus you won't need an inverter to run it :)

The lunchbox oven is the most versatile, so if you want a starter appliance, that's the one I'd recommend. Then you can build up your collection from there. I also have the frying pan and the crock pot.

Don't have or need one, everything in available in the ring tab lids. I'd say barring a microwave the lunch box cooker is the most versatile. And I got a $10 water heater for the cup o noodles.

Won't do you any good without a can opener ...

    .
Not everything ... and there a lot of things that are cheaper if you get the off brand without the pull tab. Get the cheaper ramen instead of the cup o noodles - add a small can of peas and carrots, add a small can of chicken, throw in some soy sauce and you have yourself a real meal.

Invest in a good inverter, the biggest your company will allow, and have them install it.Many a truck have burned down because of bad installations.Let a pro do it.Then buy a microwave. You can heat and cook anything in a microwave. You might spend 3 or 400 on this stuff, but you'll save that in 1 month not eating out every meal.
