I can't go back to the hood. Driving a 379 had its moments, but I love my 660. I haven't seen a tank under 7mpg, ever. Recorded one yesterday at 7.92mpg on ~600mi hauling 45k in the van. That number reflects 1 night of bunk heat, 1 parked regen and 1 rolling regen. And NOT ecm mileage, that's fill to fill, pencil to paper mileage. This is an ISX non-DEF dpf truck with 3.55's on 22.5lp duals, bone stock.

That, simply, would not be possible in a 379.

I also couldn't abide blinding hood glare and listening to stacks drone all day long. Call me soft, I'll take xenon projectors, 8-bag air ride and a VIT interior with my fuel mileage, thanks.

    SHC and LongBlackTrain Thank this.

Most of the time when you hear about drivers talking about fuel mileage. He's prob one of those 90 cents per mile lease purchase operators. where 7 to 8 miles a gallon is a must no matter how slow you drive. Because anything less then that your losing money and sometimes putting yourself in a hole. I see more flatbeds, reefers, moving companies and bullhaulers driving Petes and Kw's.

I miss the freightshaker classic XL from school. I loved to go through the gears and listen to the stacks drone. I lived for it.

That's just one tank of fuel... the only fuel economy I go by is off the ECM long term... NOT INSTANT mileage on the display. that's how all the engine manufacturers and major fleets figure fuel economy.

And that constant drone can be fixed with mufflers... and paint the hood flat black!

I'm not doubting your good fuel economy... believe it or not the best I ever did with my 379 was last spring hauling seed potatoes to Missouri... 66,000 in the box running mostly two lanes I got 7.3 mpg. My engine guy sez the motor was working at it's peak efficiency... the turbo boost is always up there when loaded that heavy... the 55 mph limit helped and the ride is like that of a '48 cadillac...smoooooth.

But my lifetime ECM mileage was, for years, 6.32... not bad IMHO... now it's down a little but I'm working on it.

24K botail? Really? I haven't had one but find this hard to beleive from a factory sleeper.
My 379 pete with 132 sleeper only weighs in at 24K bobtail.

IMO you should go with either 336 or 355 rears
