This is a great post, especially with the pic of your truck parked with headlights and foglights on.
-
Daytime running lights are mandated in several places because of idiots who run with no lights on in low visibility conditions. Amazing to me how many "truckers" are guilty of this still.
But the manufacturers (especially the bike fairings ones) need to do alot better job of securing/installing them so they don't wind up pointing every which way.
You'll often see our trucks parked with the marker lights on. That's because the Thermostat Control on the trailers are powered by this circuit and the load heat has to be kept within a narrow temp range. -
the other night, while sitting in my truck, waiting to be done loading, I turned on my washers/wipers.
The headlights came on!
I had to turn ON the headlights, to turn them back off again.
But yes, too many not even turning them on, especially when "wipers on". -
In calif its a law to have headlights on if its raining now, so truck builders do that for dumbys, driving in lots with no headlights no problem til you run over something cause you didn,t see it, but once park only my markers stay lit, safely first.

I am one that as soon as I turn into the T/S my headlights are turned off and the marker lights are left on. I usually crawl through the lot with the engine fan on so when I do get backed into a spot I can shut down right away. I love the guys that turn there lights off and then fly through the truck stop like its an on-ramp to the interstate not caring if they run someone over or hit a truck that is coming around the row of trucks.
Mud Dog Thanks this. -
I'm sensitive it light if I'm backing up and you're behind me or to the side and your lights hit me straight on or in the mirror I'm blinded for a few minutes. Ill ask over the CB for the lights to be turned off...if you ignore me I make small movements keeping lights outta my face and could give a flyin f##k if it takes an hour to back up. I run markers and 4ways at TS's shippers/receivers. If your that scared of the dark turn interior lights on...boogie man won't get ya then!

My truck automatically turns the headlights on when I'm in gear. I could flip the switch down to only the marker lights but it doesn't make a difference..the headlights will still be on until I pull the air brakes. I'll leave the marker lights on if I'm parked and the area around me is dark so people backing in can see where I am.
Then again it didn't make a difference when a Schneider backed into me. -
My International is the same way. Also the daytime running lights come on when the tractor brakes are released.
The fog lights i rarely use,the headlights are plenty. -
i got a few things to add on headlights, DIM YOUR FRIGGIN HIGH BEAMS!, IF ITS NOT FOGGY OUT TURN YOUR FRIGGIN FOG LIGHTS OFF! If you have them dang blue headlights take them out they blind people, you may be able to see where your going but if the100klb truck coming towards you cant see and hits you your both dead ether way. if you have blue headlights and blue fog lights and run them both everywhere you may just get your ### kicked for being a dumb ###.
