prime rib, I merged your three identical threads together. There is no sense trashing our forum.
You gave the guy your SSN to do a background check. He can get mega info with that. Recruiters do hang out here, just like many future employers are checking Facebook. It has nothing to do with your email and IP. You done told the guy who you worked for, you told us who you work for. You told us where you live and alot more info about yourself than you realize. Some people even post their truck pictures with theit name and truck number right on it.
It's not hard to figure out who's who. You can put one small company on your application. I can type that name in the search engine and wahlah, there's a post by a 55yr old living in PA. Now I have your screen name. I type that in google and found you at 10 other forums because you use the same screen name. In another forum you done told me more about yourself.
Being an online detective is easy because people like to talk about themselves and use patterns.
TTR is the biggest trucking forum around. Of course some recruiters come here.
Like others said, set you up different email accounts for different purposes. I like hotmail because you can easily make aliases and tie them in with your regular account. But emails aren't your main concern.
You watch what you post about yourself, don't make facebook public, use different screen names.
But as far as TTR goes your email addy and IP are strictly kept confidential. Look at our member list above. See if you see any email addresses. Then go to another forum and do the same thing. That's not how the guy tracked you. -
People want to see what your publically posting - it's a digital world. If you don't want them to know what you're saying, you can just set up a different email address to keep it seperate.

This is why I have two email accounts: one for work-related things, and one for stupid stuff that mostly gets email spam. Gotta keep the work life and personal life separate otherwise people get nosy and start playing connect the dots.
