Vegas i just found this thread, what a wealth of info. I was wondering since you are now lead driver did you get a bump in pay or is $17/hr the max? Does your company have any pay increase schedule? Being out in the field for 16 to 20 hours makes me wonder what you guys do for food? I will finish my CDL in 2 weeks and was looking into ND before i found this site and TX is looking good. Thanks for any info.

Vegas what do thoughs companys do and what are crazy checks and do you have to be a young man for the job
-
Is it smarter to get my hazmat before i go out there or will they hire me and let me and let me get It while working?
-
Vegas, Thanks for the info. I got a call from Baker Hughes and have a phone interview for a coiled tubing operator position in Canada. I'm not sure what i have to do to work in Canada but i sure do want to get that Coiled tubing operator experience. I am also putting in apps at both places you listed. I would love to be able to work the hours you are getting. Thanks again and good luck with your raise,it sounds like you deserve it.

Hey I wanted to mention I have really enjoyed this thread and the Stone Cold Rookie thread. Keep the experiences coming!
As for me, my wife and I just completed a PTDI certified program and have our hazmat, tanker, doubles and triples, and TWIC cards. We are heading down to Texas in mid March and the plan is to get a driving job hauling water.
Stay safe out there! -
Thanx for the feedback im really just doing it to help others along like i was helped.we are all just trying to feed our families in rough economic times right?
Coiled tubing does look more technical from what ive seen on the job so im sure it must be more interesting than what im doing(pumpin gas lol) you should definitely pursue it if you can. I thinking the more tech your job in the oilfield is the more you'll be in demand.
Most companies want hazmat before they talk to you i guess because then they know you CAN get it. You know the background checks and all but when you get to texas they make you get it all over again. No big deal just have to shell out $80 again . When i transferred my license to texas they just made me take the hazmat test again not the driving test.
Dude im 47 and in terrific shape but the majority of the guys i see are fat as hell and havent seen a gym ever. As long as you can drive i dont think it matters your age just your attitude, and even then i see some ###### attitudes among drivers.
As for crazy checks here are my NET pays since ive been with Thomas gross is much higher but uncle sam needs a taste lol
$231.06
$1299.58
$1347.27
$1279.18
$1418.21
$1711.43
$1414.83
$1743.44
I should note that ive been working 7 days a week for the last 40 so ill probably get less as soon as they hire a few more drivers. Ive been a lead driver now for 3 weeks and been training drivers on the job and helping with them getting their paperwork straightened out youd think id get a raise from $17 to about $20 otherwise what the point of being lead with all the hassles it entails? Im told the boss cant review pay until April so im kinda pissed that im busting my ### with no love ya know? Still im making good money and learning a lot about the oilfield so im not planning to go anywhere soon unlike a few other drivers i know here. Plus i have a 6 month lease that is good until june after that who knows? Ive been looking at fracing companies that work 2 weeks on and 1 off with 40 hours paid. That would give me a chance to go home to vegas every month. I think ill do that depending on how soon im shown love here at Thomas ya know. Im a hard worker and always try to make the company i work for look good but i need some recognition too(money lol) Ill keep readers of my thread posted on what goes on.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, Tractor7127, Rockdoctor and 4 others Thank this. -
lol, well I have been talking about it everyday for the last few days.
I'm happier now that they gave us a break.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this. -
Sure appreciate guys like you, and Paul taking the time to break it all down for us! Looking forward to getting there in the next few weeks. 8)HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this. -
thanks for the numbers and info vegas and clone, i havent called anyone because things look like they are picking back up here again and i really like my job, just wish my hours were more consistent, nice to know there is options if it turns out i need to make a decision.
