This must be OK, because they're just going a couple miles down the road. Who needs to secure things if you only gonna stop in a couple minutes?:biggrin_2555: Its just around the corner......

These are two of my bosses favorite lines.....

That second one was secured alright. What you don't see is the entire back seat and the truck filled with 50lb bags of concrete. The struts busted through their mounts in the fenderwells and set the back of the car on the ground.

The people at the store that loaded it asked them several times if they were sure they wanted all that in that tiny car and they insisted. The couple had decided to build an addon to their house/trailer and bought all that at once to do it. They made it about a mile down the road if I remember right. The guy is passed out in the seat where the car came grinding to a stop and the lady has wandered off somewhere in a haze.

Ah! Their error becomes obvious. They didn't drink enough at the bar... that prevented them from passing out soon enough!

I've been seeing that picture on the internet for years. I never knew the story to it. Where did you read about it?

That's the story I read also. We hauled lumber for a wholesaler for over 20yrs and this pic/story was posted in just about every lumberyard we delivered to. Complete with muffler dragging the ground and the shocks punching through the towers. Stupidity has no basement.

Maybe it's luck, maybe it's timing....but come June 6th, it will be 40 years and over 3MM miles I've been trucking.
In all that time, I've never had a ticket and only one accident (non chargeable).
I've had my share of stops and interactions with the police.
I've found that if you are polite, HONEST and willing to accept the consequences of my own actions, they are more than reasonable.
There are times I've deserved a citation, but they cut me a break.
There are times I've been stopped that I felt like I was picked out of the group because of dumb luck or I was stopped for no good reason.
But being polite and honest has gotten me by.
I've met a few 'less than hospitable' officers over the years. Usually young ones that seem out to make their mark. But they've cut me loose too.

I know there are some out there that are just plain unreasonable, but I've been lucky, I guess.
I treat them with the same respect I hope they will treat me and that seems to go a long way.

I had a load today that was scrap steel from one of our sheds at the lumber yard I work for. I was taking it to the recyclers.
I had stopped to check the securement, when an officer pulled along side of me. He just poked his head out the window of the truck he was driving and asked how things were. Asked if I was checking the load, I was, and he said have a good day.

You can't beat stops like that.

In all my time having a driver's license, I've never given attitude to the officer, asked why he didn't get the 10,000 other cars on the road or gotten upset when I've been stopped. Sometimes I've been let go with a warning, sometimes not. There's been a couple times where I don't feel I was the one that the officer wanted, but the roadside is not the place to argue that point.

I once got stopped and got a ticket on my birthday, which sucked. Didn't get lucky that night either, which sucked even worse.:biggrin_2553:

FWIW, I've recieved 2 roadside inspections in the last 6 months, one level 3 and one level 2. Both times it wasn't a big deal because I was legal and my equipment was in good shape. The last inspection the officer complimented me on how neat my logs were, and that he appreciated being able to read them.

If you're running legal, and you do your inspections to make sure your equipment is in safe running condition, you don't have anything to worry about from ol' dieselbear or any other LEO.:biggrin_25520:

I have seen that same picture many times also, along with a few other angles of it, including the broken suspension.

One story I saw even said that the young couple were crackheads, and they were passed out in the car.

With the way the internet is, who knows for sure?

They used to have a whole web page up devoted to it, complete with police reports. No idea if it's still up or where it was, it's been a few years.
