I am about to embark on a new and exciting career with OTR. To me, it is the most stable and secure job opportunity available in the US right now. Good money, benefits, and job security (maybe not with the same company but you will always have a job opportunity)
I got my Class A last week and will attend orientation with KLLM in a few weeks.
I am looking forward to documenting my training and subsequent solo experiences for my 1st year. Hopefully it will be positive and others can see that this industry is not all just whiney complainers.

Welcome to TTR.

To you I say "Welcome". OTR running is a great career however bear in mind that you will be missing alot of things at home unless you get on some regional or local kind of run where you can be home often. I have been OTR for the past 5 years and love it. Me and my wife decided the best thing to do would be to just live in the truck. No since in having to pay all the extra bills if im never going to be home to enjoy the things im paying for. I just recently became an owner op. You can check out my blog and follow the progress of my work there if you would like. Good luck and happy trails to you brother.

I am well aware of what an OTR trucker has to "give up". We (my family) have been traveling with our own company for the past 15 years. We have been separated for birthdays, anniversaries, and many holidays. I also know that hometime/ontime is not a guarantee. If there is an important event/must be there then I know better than to try to get home the day before or that day. I plan to work my hometime around those events so that I am able to be there.
I am going to learn the business before I jump into O/O and maybe that will be an option for me later. I also look forward to learning from those, like you, who've been out there and learned a thing or two about how it works and how to make it work for you.
BTW, I am not a brother, but a sister.
Giggles the Original and Nycmex77 Thank this. -

Red Hot Mess: I only aspire to be a newbie, will be starting school soon. But like you, I am so over all the know-it-all, negative, crass, whiney attitudes out there. Those who think they know it all don't, and if they don't like driving, then Circle-K is hiring. Be safe.
Red Hot Mess Thanks this. -
