Was watching a certain tech today. Had a radio on his bench that a driver had paid $100 to a tech that has a shop between Little Rock and Conway on I40 to set up to run with a linear. The driver was told it was impossible to put 'talk back' in his radio, the radio was also dead keying at almost 6 watts! The certain tech I totally trust, had installed talk back in matter of minutes, re-tuned the radio to safely drive a amp, and made other adjustments I don't claim to understand to stabilize the radio, (the freq readouts were jumping around) all in matter of just a few minutes. This certain tech gets a lot of work re-doing what this other guy, on 140, near the 142 I believe, screws up. But some say the guy on I40 is a great tech!!!!! I guess you can fool part of the people all of the time! He has been in business in the same place for several years. Just goes to show you longevity doesn't always mean quality! He ain't on the "white list" mentioned above!!!

I never did figure out what the hundred was for. Nothing but theft as far as I can tell. Every adjustment in the radio was wrong. Including a half kc split and all offsets incorrectly set. Complete robbery of a working driver who has kids to feed and bills to pay. You didn't add the I-40 guy also sold him a 225 doing only 40 watts during the same visit where he charged the hundred on top of that for matching the radio. Leaving the dead key at 6 and telling the driver the 225 is only supposed to do 40. I did figure out he left it keying 6 as the MRF455's were so bad it took 6 to get it to key 25 and modulate to 40. I hate lying thieving tweaknicians like that because they give drivers a rotten impression of all shops. I have been on the white list with DTB since it began but have not talked to him in so long I doubt he knows I am somewhere else now.

"Hi Russell. Long time no see": rabbiporkchop that is because I live in the middle of nowhere and do not get out much. Just saw your post I have not been going through the threads that much lately. I was curious about the old 292 location. A driver told me it was rebuilt into a casino now and since you go that route all the time maybe you could look and see. Just wondering if that was true. If so don't gamble there it will be just like White Mountain. A buck back for every grand you pay in.

I stopped in that shop on I 40 @ the Morgan exit #142 a few months ago just as I was getting back into the hobby.
Was not impressed at ALL. The kid that was the "expert" couldn't have been much past his mid 20's and the only thing he wanted to talk about was how great Hustler antennas were. I DO NOT claim to be an expert or even have the knowledge to do any repairs. However, I do know the basics and how to install and use.
From what I saw of his work, just the few minutes that I was there, I couldn't recommend. The tech Mike keeps mentioning is the only one that will ever touch my radio equipment again. I don't care if it is a 3 hour drive out of the way, He is well worth it.

At my age I'm lucky I remembered even being at your place! (From "Hayseed's" description it sounds like the infamous I40 shop has hired help??)

"Cutting the limiter is the single worst thing you can do to a radio."

I disagree. Putting toys like the exstasy or roger beep are worse. Worse still, taking it to Kingdom City.

Then I guess you don't understand what the modulation limiter actually does. It's not the same as the governor on your truck.

Yeah, figuring out what a modulation LIMITER is is a tough one!

Would not good moderation be to explain to a new member that link posting is inhibited for beginning posts as a spammer block and he had to make posts first. I assume He 'figured this' because the board software would not let Him post a link.

    KE5WDP Thanks this.

292 is still as it always was-unchanged minus the fact you are no longer there. I made sure that DTB is aware of your new location, although I did not give him your phone number because out of the three numbers I have for you, I am not sure which number you want to share with potential customers. Harddrive is now in Amarillo which is much closer to you if you ever decide to team up with him. He is doing great in amarillo by the way.
