I understand that we have a monthly gross I was just saying we don't have one based on a full month of running as of yet. As far as the accountant I kind of dropped the ball on that one but will be looking for one soon. Anyone know of a good one in the lufkin/ houston TX area?

Sorry ab I thought I did answer this. I would definitely do this again there is no better feeling than truly being in control of your future. As far as changes I would've looked over the truck better and probably had more start up capital we started with around 40k and got really low for a bit we are finally getting that account balance back up there.

You will have truck payments, fuel, maint., license, permits, tolls, food and on and on but FIRST you pay your wife at home. All the success in the world is null and void if Momma's not happy!!!!

Thats what i call "bounce". Im just over half way through this thread, wish I had read it sooner.
MCClellan dont be afrraid to negotiate COD with load brokers. Most want 5%, so add 5% to the rate they offer you. Make them work for you, thats what they do. (youve probably figured this out by now)

Thought I would weigh in on how I got started. I put 1,000$ down on a 2000 Freightliner FLD120. Cummings N-14 10 speed trany. Payments of 450 a month. I leased on with a small local company ran for a couple months average 2,250$ total net every two weeks, running 5 days a week. I was forced to stop driving and hire a driver. Still did OK for a month then winter hit. We went down to about 1,000 miles a week.
Things have kind of been there since January. I have now bought my own trailer. 1990 lufkin flat bed. Payment on it is 425 a month. Have filled for my own DOT and MC number. Will be active any day. Have made contact with a couple local brokers and set to run with them as well as some what look to be really good load boards. The main broker has averaged 9,000 miles a month per truck fleet average through winter. They keep their drivers home most weekends so thats not bad. They want more volume and need more trucks.
I got lucky with my truck and have had no major issues with her. Since 1 /sep/2011 have replaced two tires 950$,axle hub seal 45$,a set of brakes 90$ , a muffler 45$, an airline 18$ and new batteries 428$. Given the year and the fact that we have over 1,000,000 miles on her very happy. And still running 6.35 MPG pulling flatbed on I-5 corridor. Once we can get our own loads our miles should at least double and revenue should see a nice increase.
Long story short. To all the guys wanting to get started its a long pain in the butt process but with some research and planing it can be done and YES IT IS MORE THAN WORTH THE HEADACHES. There are good trucks for good price plenty of freight to haul. It comes down to you how much you make or don't make.
