Just curious. But I'm heading to Dallas to start my training on Monday. But was curious after I graduate. And I go on the road with a trainer. How will my sleeping arrangements be. How does that work out and how are the trainers in the company.

I understand your situation, broham, but I think you might have the wrong idea about what is going on here.
I do not work for Stevens and have never leased a truck, but I'm willing to bet that if you look at your settlement, you will see actual compensation in there. True, most if not all of your compensation went to the truck payment, fuel, and whatever else a lease-op is supposed to pay for, but also to cover the negatives for the previous week(s).
Obviously, the weather got the best of you here. I don't know what deductions come out of your settlements, but assuming .95 cpm (I have no clue what Stevens pays lease-ops), at 5200 miles since your last check 20 days ago, you've actually generated $4940 in revenue to your "company" (you), not including fuel surcharge (do they give you guys fuel surcharge?). Lets assume FSC is .41/mi avg in that 20 days, thats another $2132 in revenue.
So, you grossed $7072 in the last 20 days to your "company". 5200 miles at roughly 6.5mpg avg (just guessing here) thats 800 gals of fuel, at avg $4/gal (again, just ballparking) is $3200 in fuel for the past 20 days.
That leaves you $3872 after fuel costs, to make your truck and insurance payments, pay taxes, put money into your maintenance fund, and any other fixed costs you might have. It's not a huge chunk of change, but it's still earnings. Just figuring three truck payments in there at $600 each (just guessing again), that still leaves you $2072, then figure .07cpm into maint fund, $364, leaving you $1708. Again, this doesn't take bobtail insurance and any other costs like taxes into consideration. Not rich, but still that is $85/day for the last 20 days.
Can I ask what your fixed costs are? Insurance? Truck payment? how many cpm going to maintenance? How much of that money went to settle up previous negative checks? Are you idling at night or do you have an APU or bunk heater? Are you eating at TS or cooking in the truck?
When you lease a truck from ANYbody, you are in business for yourself. It's no longer Stevens job to make sure you are compensated, it's YOUR job to make sure you are compensated. They pay you so much per mile, probably detention and breakdown, and throw freight at you. Your biggest job is to pinch those pennies into copper foil to make your business profitable. They paid you what you ran, I'll assume, but your earnings appear to have been eaten up in expenses. Am I off here?TRKRSHONEY and Knew B. Wannabee Thank this. -
I understand but you are a business now that made some poor decisions over the past 3 months. The hole began with the accident, not your fault and then all the expenses you incurred helping stevens out but not yourself. Then the time at home and the yard during slow frieght season your hole got deeper.
You were compensated .85 per mile. Sorry you have not been able to survive the start of your own business. Your business failed just like 90% of businesses do, lack of capital to get you threw a slow period and unexpected expenses.
Hope you take it as a learning experienceJarhed1964 Thanks this. -
Each truck has two bunks. You will have the top bunk. This is where all your personal items, luggage, etc will be during your duration on the truck.
Keep that in mind when deciding how much to bring with you.
Most students have a duffle bag with personal items, clothes. A pillow and a sleeping bag.
As for trainers? Some great, some good, some so so and some bad.
Hopefully you get a great one.
The company is always trying to weed out the last two classes. -
Flight.
Sorry for the troubles. I hope it gets better.
Before you pull the plug, sit down with Bonnie, your Business Advisor and possibly Cat to go over your plight.
They may be willing to rewrite the lease, in essence, starting over, and giving you some incentives up front that will allow you to get a jump in starting over. Things like a couple free payments up front.
Try and work out a solution with them first. This is what any good businessman does when confronted with serious cashflow issues.
Right now, you have the advantage over them. They don't want to lose a driver and you want to make money. There must be some middle ground that will take care of both sides.
Good luck.DenaliDad, Jarhed1964, Knew B. Wannabee and 1 other person Thank this. -
What do you mean the company is trying to weed out the last 2 classes. Are they trying to get rid of everyone from the last 2 classes. How do I know they want do that to the class ill be in.
Thanks for all the info. Yeah i hope I get a great trainer. If I do have issues with my trainer. There's nothing that can be done about that. Huh? -
lmfao:he meant the last 2 classes of trainers,so-so and bad.####
-
I meant the lowest two classes of trainers...those that are so so and those that are just plain bad.
The company invests a lot of money in new driver candidates during the first six months. They don't make that money back until later. They want to keep new drivers, so they work hard to improve and get them up and going. -
