Sitting in Harrisburg waiting to pu a load tonight. They tried giving us a short run to York while we were waiting but we don't have the hours to pull that off. Right now the plan is to pu load and head toward Tunnel Hill to pick up the IFTA stickers then proceed to Phoenix. Somewhere in there we'll get a 34 hr restart.

will be going to orientatin in tuttle hill ga in two weeks. i have heard so many horrer stories but want to get the real truth from professionals. 46 years old, have had my own pest control company for many years but the economy took us under a few years ago so i retired but now went thru driver training at our local tech college for two months. love to drive and drove 25 years ago for my uncle but only for 2 years and it was local only. wife will be coming along with me after training. So, is us express a good company? I have offers from trans am and crete. I like us xpress do to there in georgia where we live. Crete has great pay and have a terminal close to where we live, but are located in NE. Trans am is in Dallas area but no hazmat, new trucks with auto's and pay is .31 per mile. us express is .26 to .30 on sliding scale. Crete is .34 flat per mile. I like all the extras with us express. So, who is the better company? Who will get me the most miles and home every 3 weeks without all the hassle? Any help will be great.

As a solo I would chose Crete. TransAm has APU's

As has already been posted, no walmart DC will allow you to park to take a 10 hr break. However many of the DCs have some limited parking close by. Just ask security or the CTO. Nowhere in the FMCSA regs does it say you can drive past your 11 or 14 hours with the one exception about adverse conditions, and unfortunately running out of hours is not an adverse condition. Even if you get a police escort it's still a HOS violation, if you log it and get inspected afterward you are subject to get ticketed. I know somebody's going to post a disagreement on this, please if you do also post a link to the FMCSA regs that backs your position. Because in the end this is what that DOT enforcement officer will go by.

This is one of at least a dozen myths in trucking. There IS NO exceptions to the FMCSA rules about HOS other then the adverse conditions exception. If it's not covered in the regs you CAN"T DO IT! You can't legally drive once you get past that 11 or 14 hour limit period! These HOS regs are both Federal and State and there is NO place in any of them that says law enforcement can allow you to violate the HOS laws. If a cop needs you to move and you are out of hours the ONLY way out of this situation is to call a wrecker and have your truck towed. If it's an emergency just drive to a safe place and log it. Tell safety what happened and why. I've had to do this already twice.Yes doing so opens you up to a possible HOS ticket later on, but that's just part of the life of a Trucker. I don't like it but sometimes you just have to do things you hate.
edited to add this.
I have asked the CTO if it would be OK for me to drop my trl and bobtail out to park for my 10 if I am close to being out of hours. Most will let you, i've done this at least a dozen times now. The benefit of this is you get your break started, it's easier to park bobtail too. The DC will just take your trl and park it till your break is over. Of course you need to OK this with your carrier, but it really is the best solution if no parking is close. Most of the time the carriers are only concerned about your trl being secure, and it always is at a walmart DC. The moral of the story is there are always options.Last edited: Feb 24, 2012
