    Hello All,
Just doing some research on owner operator costs. What type percentages do you apply for the different categories of costs? For example: Truck payment = x%, maintenance=x%, new tires= x%

Does anyone have a breakdown of this sort of thing?

ok, this is a spread sheet that I put together and I was going to ask a really similar question. I am looking to go the O/O route instead of company driver.

so I will just tag it on here and see what others have to say.

the one thing I do not have figured in with this is the cost of vehicle liability insurance. If I had a ball park for that, I would add it in.

Is it in the ball park? too conservative? Realistic?

Well, that helps me out considerably to get a rough idea of cost and breakdown of it. I'm in Canada so mine will have slightly different ( and less) cost. I can't fathom paying 1500.00 a month for health insurance......jeepers!

Eh, it's high. I know Cobra insurance for my family right now next month will be $1284.

I can put that into canadian funds if you want me to. Be easy to do with just one or two number changes. cost per KM too I would think would be doable.

I was let go from a job on Feb 3 and need to do something soon. We can scratch by for a bit. But I would rather not.

I'm a company driver right now hauling Super B Chip trailers and am thinking of putting a truck on with my company. Did I read your rate right? $0.81 a mile? Our company is looking at $1.80 a mile with a cap of $1.60 gallon for fuel.

that is what I have for planning purposes. Your $1.80 per mile I am taking less the FSC, takes it to $1.30. At 65% to the truck, that comes to about 84.5 CPM. So it's not far off. If I do that incorrectly, someone please let me know.

It comes from reading a lot of the landstar posts as well as some of the O/O postings. There are also alot of experience in there. I spent 8 years driving truck and seeing what breaks/needs maintenance as well as was the Maintenance liason for my national guard unit managing 50 vehicles when deployed overseas.

If you look to the lower left, you will see a FSC of .50. That's a fuel surcharge. Again, it's gleened from reading a lot of the O/O posts on what they are getting for FSC and how it's passed back to the truck. Cost of fuel run minus the fuel charge give the fuel cost that goes into the Overhead column.

I am figuring revenue low and expenses high. There are changes coming I am currently working on. I did not have a 2290 tax or IFTA fees in the calculations. Putting those in now. Trying to get it as realistic as possible.

Just got back from talking with the insurance guy.

$1500 is a good planning number and will get you:
    Health
    Life
    Short term disability
    Long Term Disability

    That includes a $1000 deductible.
