Companies dictate that they want the logs.
Several states do not honor personal conveyance as well.
Some states have stated you cannot be off duty until you return to the terminal or home.
Otherwise, I have no disagreement with the fact of your last line. It is just the DOT does.

One thing 1 tonners have to be careful of . Older trucks don't have a GVWR over 10,000 lb.s but the newer ones do .
It's like Roadmedic says though . You have to go by the policy of the company you are signed on with .
In better days RV transport companies in several states and would allow you to go to the terminal closest to your delivery point or home then go off duty . Most terminals outside of Indiana closed .
Be advised when you contract with a carrier they have a lot of control of your truck even when off duty . -
I may be able to help you with this issue. Please send me a private message. -

What companies do you suggest for a 38 yr old newbie? Somewhere for me to learn about this line of work? And someone willing to take a 2004 Dodge shortbed.
I've tallked to recruiters from RV Xpress and Horizon. I've emailed TN Transport with no response and I'm going to return a call from Lake Country Transport tomorrow.
It will be approximately one month before I can start with any of them. I'm waiting on my DOT stuff to get straightened out and finishing up a house remodel. -
I didn't they would let you pull with a shortbed I thought it had to be at least a 6' and 3/4 or 8'
-
From what I can tell some will and some wont let you pull with a short bed. Some flat out say they wont take a short bed others say that you have to have a slider 5th wheel. I would rather not pull 5th wheel this year. Gooseneck and/or bumper pull.
