Freight haulers, how many load bars do you need?

I don't carry any load locks at all.....Oh wait, I pull a flatbed.

Don't forget about the special load locks for the tankers.

Absolutley--but if the shipper wants to double up this way--he needs to be specific they require a lgoistics trailer--with e-tracs--DECKABLE--lot of the freight companies have them--but it isn't the type of load you would normally see advertised publically--these shippers typically have specified carriers set up well in advance--but anyway
As for me--I carry 8 load locks--but remember--I am the only one who pulls my trailer--I have a rack at the back of trailer they hang in--and I do LTL--and collect my mt palletts back--so I end up with some pretty weird--freight configurations as the week goes on--and don't like to have to move mts at every stop--so I stack rows of mts on one side and put load locks--up and down--all around them--so I can still get my jack past the stacks and get to freight--but I admit--this is a speciallized situation.

What they want is something like this:





Both Ancra and Kinedyne engineer captive beam systems that are integrated into the walls and roofs of trailers. As you can see in the picture, the beams hang from the trailer ceiling and can be brought down via rails on the trailer walls with a special fork-like tool. You can double-up pallets without stacking them which increases trailer cube and decreases damage. You can also use the beams for bracing freight, as well.

I ran a peddle-route with a trailer like this for a few years. The advantage to this system is that you don't have to mess around with moving/carrying/storing tons of bars around...they're basically stored in the roof. The disadvantage is that some tall freight can't fit because the bars take up about 6" or so of space at the top of the trailer. Another problem is that every once in a while, I'd spear a bar while loading/unloading freight with the forklift and it was kinda a PITA to get a new one...as the bars are specialty products.

You can floor-load 26 standard 48"X40" pallets in a 53' trailer.
If you side-load them, you can get 28.
Reason the shipper wanted 26 bars is that he could load 26 floor-loaded pallets + 26 pallets on the decking beams for a total of 52.

 

Load locks always end up on floor very rarely do they stay in place on the ediculasrun.. 26 load locks is almost funny if it was not so stupid of an idea.. How in the world would you deal
with that many on a reload.

 

I am a newbie looking over old threads on load locks and saw one of your comments that you had a rack to put your locks in. I am looking for one. What are you using and where did you get it? Thanks!

 

I hauled freight once (40ft box)........ 6-8 load bars...and maybe 6 ratchet straps.

 

most times i run reefer so 2 load bars and my 4 straps, i like my straps , i wrap it around the last two pallets and hook in side of trl , i tighten up real tight that way , dang bars keep slipping and sliding off, and i have run into that before too , as i checked the bills with what i have on trl, 26 load bars , probly was a typo and ment 2 bars instead, i woulda went back in and ask too make sure.
