Engine SN starts with MBN means its a bridge.
BXS was first Acert. Think it stands for,
    Advanced Combustion Emissions Reduction Technology.

Without popping the hood, first indication would be lack of real boost. A bridged won't pull more then 27 to 30 psi in stock form.

Second would be serious lag when encountering hills.

    Third, terrible economy.

There are programs available to fix these issues but not from Cat or your dealer.

Cat will not do anything to fix these issues.

Because the EPA makes the rules.

Well first off, they were trying to meet some type of epa standards.

Second, they only had this creation for a few years. I am not sure of the cut off date on the MBN or bridged motors but I think it was 2004.

I am running one right now and have been running it for about 4-5 years.

It is an 04 Pete 379. Currently sitting with a tad over 800,000 miles on it now.

I have had the truck into the local Cat dealers in ND for power complaints etc and all checks out good. I have questioned the Cat dealers (Butler Cat) in Grand Forks, Fargo, and Jamestown ND as well as the Peterbilt dealer in Fargo about finding something that will make this thing perform the way a cat is supposed to. NO dice.

About the only option is to contact someone in the aftermarket such as Mr Haney, about reprogramming the ECM. Only problem with that is that if you end up in a cat dealer etc for work on the truck and they find the change in programming, they might reprogram the thing back to bridged specs. Or , as quoted from Butler, refuse to work on the truck until it is returned to stock configuration.

I have not kept up on Mr Haneys replys here on the forum and if he is finding a way to hide the programming from cat dealers etc.

There are some external mods that can help the bridged motors but again, you might end up removing them before going in for repairs.

I don't know exactally how many bridged motors are still out there running the highways, but I am guessing there are still alot of them. It would be great if all of us running bridged motors, could get together and get Cat do to something about the poor tune of these motors. Which is causing very poor performance and fuel economy.

im not taking mine to cat or any truck dealer for repairs.....

i did the haney tune on my bridge and since have played around trying diffrent
    operation ranges.....

running my truck at 60 mph i have gotten up to 7.4mpg
and running my truck at 68-70 ive gotten 6.9mpg
and these arent empty running miles
i have gotten as low as 5.3 running alot of town miles and fighting hard winds....
if i dont get in a hurry when running thru town and dont force the engine to pull thru the wind ive still got 6mpg.....

to get results like that....i can avoid cat or truck dealers, considering before the haney tune the best i got was
5.7 and that was poking around pulling a flatbed....
the above numbers were done pulling a hopper bottom and a half round end dump
