Sad when someone dies in a crash..

Looks like a foggy area. Prob didn't see the parked truck till it was too late.

    Looking at the position of the wreckage it appears;

    - The parked truck was partially in the travel lane and partially on the shoulder.

    - The moving truck tried to swerve at the last minute but dislodged its steering axle in the collision with the trailer and its partially empty side tank was torn open in the collision with the stopped trailer.

    - The subsequent jackknife caused the cab to twist so that the drivers door would not open and the driver was burned alive.

    - Collision speed appears to be about 50 km/hr.

    The questions are:

    - Why was the truck parked on the highway?

    - Was there a mechanical malfunction of the parked truck that made it unavoidable to cause a traffic hazard by stopping on the highway?

    - Were the hazard lights and marker lights functioning on the parked truck?

It goes without saying that the SLH driver who was burned alive was probably driving too fast for the conditions but he may have been driving only slightly too fast and the parked trailer may have been difficult to see.

I've hated that #### stretch of road ever since they built it.

Deep and sincere sympathy to the survivors.

    Be safe out there drivers.

when the time came for our government to build a new divided highway, they farmed it out to a American company who simply followed the shortest route, through a mountain right through the worst snow belt in the province. The real kicker, the old 2 lane highway is still the alt. route when the big road is closed because they can't keep the snow cleared. oh yea it's $20 each way to roll through there

I have waited for over a month now since posting news of this tragedy to see if any more information would be posted.

What I would like to know most of all right now is this:

    RUNAWAYSCREAMING:

Were you at the scene of this incident when it happened, or at the scene shortly afterwards ?

If the answer is NO, have you ever traveled this section of highway before ?

Are you a professional accident investigator ?
