teen slams into back of semi

This made the national news..happened about 6 weeks ago. May this girl RIP, but i hope neithertrucker is being cited for anything due to her lapse in judgement.

It's being rehashed because the parents have become advocates of no texting while driving in their home state of Idaho. I think they were on one of the morning "news" shows this morning.

 

The problem isn't just with teens! I saw an older lady doing it just this weekend and she just about killed a kid on a bicycle. I gave in and called her tag into the police all they did was say Oh Well

 

Minnesota has already passed such a law.....

But it doesn't appear to be getting much enforcement.

 

88 MPH???? a slow moving truck ,well ya, considering it is 65 for trks there and 70 for cars, and she was doing 88.....AND texting while she was doing 88.....what a tragic loss.

 

ELMORE COUNTY -- Idaho State Police continue to investigate a three car crash that took the life of a Caldwell woman.
It happened Saturday night, when 18-year-old Taylor Sauer crashed into the back of a semi-truck.

It was one year ago that Taylor appeared on KTVB's Saturday morning news as the recipient of our "Distinguished Student Award."

When that story aired, we showed you how the Marsing High School honor student was thinking about college and wanted to become a teacher.

"A little scared, but I'm ready to leave and go farther. Take on the world," Taylor Sauer said at the time.

Taylor did go further. According to her Facebook page, she enrolled at Utah State University and was studying elementary education.

As a Distinguished Student Winner, Sauer had solid work ethic and it was her community service that put her in the spotlight. But Saturday her bright future was cut short.

Idaho State Police say at around 9 p.m., Sauer was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 in Elmore County. Traveling ahead of her was a semi-truck pulling a tanker trailer. The driver was traveling slow, only about 15 mph and was going uphill. Sauer struck the back of the semi and was then struck by another semi-truck from behind.

Sauer's Facebook page gives clues as to what could have happened just moments before the crash.

Around the time of the crash, Sauer was engaged in a Facebook conversation with friends. After a few back and forth comments about a Denver football game Taylor then wrote "I can't discuss this matter now. Driving and facebooking is not safe! Haha."

Later in the online conversation, another friend asked "Why aren't you here?"
Sauer held a 3.9 GPA at Marsing High School. She was involved in 4-H, FFA and she played first base for her high school softball team. She even planned a "tough enough to wear pink" breast cancer awareness night at the school.

"It's just a really cool experience to get everyone involved," said Taylor Sauer in the DSA story that aired one year ago.

Idaho State Police continue to investigate the crash that killed Taylor, but troopers said she was wearing her seatbelt and was not drinking.

Idaho State Police has not said specifically what caused the crash. They have not released anymore details about whether Taylor was texting or on Facebook while driving.

The driver of the semi-truck that hit Taylor's car before going off of the road, was taken to an Elmore County hospital with injuries
