It depends on the company. Guess what? There's BFI LTL companies! I know I had the unfortunate opportunity of briefly working for one. NEVER AGAIN. Please give me otr, regional, utility, I don't care what, I will never again put myself in that position to be hurt the way I was for lack of training again!

    Flame on!

I run ltl out of a big terminal and choose to stay out m-f. I run mostly daylight hours. Don't own a map and run 3,000 plus every week

striker, where the hell are estes or saia union? quit talking about what you don't know about. they aren't union anywhere, and if you don't know that, then your lack of knowledge about local trucking is really showing. And please spare me the horror stories of being the low man on the board over at UPS. their low guys still make over 80k a year at the Buffalo hub. You can keep the new truck, I'll take the older one and the money and benefits....

Think i'm wrong about Estes or Saia? show me a contract, give me a city that they are union in, give me a teamsters local.

while that is true to some degree, ive been pulling doubles for about 8 months without prior experience. I had good training, good background knowledge and Im safety conscious. So everthing gets triple checked. They do take some getting used to, especially if the trailers are loaded high and tight. But just take corners slow until you get the hang of it. but Id would rather run a set than a van. Everytime i have to pull a van now I have to change my frame of mind.

I never said the LTL's all require prior doubles experience. Just saying you have to know what youre doing. Everybody starts somewhere.

Anybody know which LTL outfits have terminals in Brooklyn or Queens?

It was ok. I did side loader delivery. You know delivering C-stores and restaurants and such. Made $12 an hour. Started at 4 or 5am. Usually done by 2 or 4. Week ends off.

Job was physically rough, but I liked it. A lot of little perks. Free food from my restaurant customers.

    It was a start.

They are all located within close distance of each other.

conway freight, yellow, new penn motor express, old dominion, central transport just to name a few are all within a mile of each other

Maybe it's a good idea to take it as a bridge between OTR and LTL? I've thought about it.
