New to this site and so far really enjoying it. So I just obtained my class a cdl and looking to start off . I have a question to which companies might allow passengers to ride along that aren't family? Like a long term gf or friend. Of course when I have some experience and learned the r0pes . So far its just spouse that I have found. Any suggestions will be helpful

    NONE.

That is the short response. BUT........... Most of the major companies will allow you to take anyone with you . As long as you are paying for the insurance program. I think.

My company will allow anyone over 18 as long as the authorization paperwork is filled out and processed and the insurance paid once you have 90 days in with the company with no accidents or incidents.

    ewill71 Thanks this.

As long as the person is over 18 and you have the authorization paperwork, you'll be fine. Some companies make you pay a insurance premium for the rider as well (usually $20-$50 a month) but some don't charge anything at all. Just ask your perspective employer on their standards and rules. No biggie

Take the military approach.....rank and serial # is all you offer. Dont ask and nobody can say no and you cant say you asked but did it anyway.

Yeah this is one of those widespread aspects/rules about this career field that needs to change. Simply because the "Portrait of an American Family" has changed so much over the last 50 years, and hasn't applied to a strong % of truckers enough ever anyways, that the rules need to change with it, especially in a field as demanding of commitment as this one. I do understand up until now why that rule was in place, and I appreciate it's function, but also hold its lack of necessity in this day and age as a necessary implement to ensure the quality of truckers/trucking your company's money is buying. Just my two cents.:biggrin_25523:
