If you don't mind cutting out 1 of those states, California, the best option is a glider truck with a pre-emissions engine. Will last a long time, require less maintenance, and be cheaper to maintain and operate. On top of that, will cost new only about 3/4 the cost or less of a similar new emission truck. As for the new emission equipped trucks, not sure any of them will be reliable and last a long time. But then, a person with deep pockets can make anything last a long time.
Good semi to buy?

Something to consider if you get a Cat engine......You can take your truck to a Cat dealer as well as your truck brand shop. Also, Cat has quit making class 8 engines.

Now that I have a Volvo I will never understand this. It is my favorite truck I have ever had. Had International, Freightliner (a few of them!), Kenworth (2), heck even a Ford sleeper, and the current Volvo I have is simply awesome. The Kenworth I had was a total lemon, horrible truck.
My Volvo does have the ISX, so maybe staying away from the Volvo engine is a plus? Never had one, so can't say.SHC Thanks this. -
I have driven Mack's,freightliners, internationals, fords and volvos. Volvos are by far my favorite truck but, I clearly notice its in the shop more often than other trucks. Seems like little small issues like bushings, seals, governor and air valves just to name a few. Still, all in all Volvo still my favorite truck LOL #### you Volvo!

From the driver's view, the Volvo's are fantastic trucks. Even I lust after a 730. However, from an owner's view, I have heard more " I'll never buy another Volvo, no matter how nice it rides" from Volvo drivers than all other brands combined. I already own a truck that dealers never stock parts for (Western Star), thankfully it rarely has an issue. I'll be ###### to buy a problematic brand that has the same dealer issue. Unfortunately, there really aren't any great choices. If you were to buy a new anything, I would definitely buy the towing insurance.

Idk, I brought a 2004 certified Pre owned BMW X5 a few years back and after the warranty expired the engine went. I know it's not a truck but, my point is, does anyone make a quality product anymore?? If I buy a truck it will be used. I'll just go for what I like and am comfortable driving because they all have issues!

My Volvo has never seen the dealer. I use a local truck repair shop, and they have been able to do all repairs. Hasn't cost any more or less than any other truck I've owned.

I've been leaning very hard towards buying a Fitzgerald Glider. I have heard nothing but great things about them, and I am a wiz at working on the 12.7 Detroits (even tho it comes with a 3yr/300k warranty) so the 7+mpg and the fact it is a brand new "older" model truck has me REALLY thinking about it.

Look at Fitzgerald. They do have some good deals. But there are others out there that are doing gliders almost on the scale Fitzgerald is. I ordered mine from Harrison Truck Center, a Freightliner dealer in Elk Run heights, IA. They do them at their Clear Lake, IA location. Spec'd the snot out this one. Though I went with a Columbia instead of a Coronado, there is nothing a Coronado has on this one, except a bigger nose and longer wheel base. I went way beyond typical spec's than any of the gliders that are on Truckpaper shows. Anyone desiring to see the spec sheets, just PM me your email and I will forward the 16 pages to you. -
what was the price difference? Is there any?
