    What Pilot? A new one? Pilot only lists 3 Pilots within a hundred mile radius of Haverhill on their app. Please enlighten us on this unlisted Pilot with a non-CAT scale.

    Sturbridge MA, Bow NH, N.Covington CT.

    CAT lists Greenland NH as the closest CAT scale and that's not 3 miles from Haverhill.

    I might change my mind on Haverhill if you've got some info on a Pilot that I can't find.

    IP, weigh right is only as good as the last person who calibrated it... Im sure you have it right in your truck, the trailer is a different story.

    Seeing how every load I have ever picked up was drop n hook, or drop empty and hook to trailer being loaded in a door... Your left to the mercy of the trailer weigh gauge.

    I've actually had at least 2 loads over weight that have had to be reworked after running to Sturbridge for CAT scale. Both were CA bound/6th hole limit.

    Just so everyone is clear here, using basic high school algebra, can you please explain the algebra so everyone can follow your example and confidently pick up a loaded trailer with a gauge that is possibly uncalibrated and have the confidence they will get a green light at the DOT scale house without ever purchasing a scale ticket.

    When discussing the Haverhill situtation (or any General Mills load) Dont forget to explain how you factor the three types of pallets, and their individual weight (wood, CHEP wood, GPS) How some of the loads include 20-30 mix of the 3 type of pallets.

    Why must you explain pallets? Well, as you know, General Mills never includes pallet weights to the total weight printed on the bills.

    Oh, and please dont forget about the part where you tell us about how you convince the office personal to rework your load once you discover you are overweight on a tire set, or gross based soley on your gauges, algebra and not on an actual scale ticket.

    Delivered at Walmart in Sterling, IL yesterday morning. Picked up a loaded trailer last night at Hershey in Edwardsville, IL

    Rolling across Nebraska now. FM's got the weekend off so the sub is currently looking for something to roll on in SLC or N. California...

    This load delivers Tuesday morning in Modesto and we'll be passing SLC late late tonight and then on into CA mid day tomorrow (Sun)

    The sub seems really interested in keeping us moving rather than sitting for two days... I hope he's not just blowing smoke.

    Remember... I said it usually makes a CAT scale ticket unnecessary. Go take a first cut at the tandem position, roll a little way to get it all happy, and in very round numbers...

    ...if its one of those loads you know will have you within a few pounds of GCVW, you gotta go scale it. Then there's Commifornicatya... way too anal for me.

    Take empty weight of your truck and trailer - gotta do that with each series of trailer - you do know those numbers don'tcha?

    Empty weight + alleged gross weight of load = assumed GVW

    Assumed GVW - 12k-ish - drive Right Weigh = about whatcha ought to have on the trailer Right Weigh.

    ...GOAL.

    Either its about right or it ain't.

    If you have enough headroom to not worry (your mileage may vary on what that is) its time to do a final tandem adjustment and hit the road.

    If it ain't, ya need to go find a scale (a closed DOT scale house will usually have the scales powered up) and see what is and what ain't. Plus, it either drives right or it doesn't. Something that is enough out of whack for you to be considering plunking down $9.50 in hard earned trucker bucks usually doesn't pull right. Or the idjit that messed with the trailer Right Weigh was a moron.

    Then there is whether or not you're going to be hitting an open scale. Sometimes its just not worth worrying yourself about it too much - but that depends on your tolerance and experience.

    ...advice to newbs and company types - scale it every time. They pay you back.
