There not the worst company by far.

You'd be better off looking at:

    Millis transfer
    Watkins shepard
    epes
    wel companies

Bud, choosing your first company all boils down to you..There are going to be drivers who just sit and wait..steaming mad in their truck waiting to be dispatched and those that will be on the phone every two hours bugging to be dispatched..

If you are proactive and quickly learn how to be efficient while on the road you will be fine with any of them...with one or two exceptions. Avoid companies that push their brand new trainees to hop into a lease..Use the FMCSA website to look at how a company's trucks do at DOT inspections and narrow the list. A high rate of DOT fix it tickets and Mechanical OOS tickets usually does indicated haphazard maintenance. Which means breakdowns to a driver.

When I was still driving Roehl was ok..they had pretty new equipment as far as tractors..some of their trailers were banged up..but that isn't necessarily the company's fault..didn't see em getting tires fixed a lot or broke on the side of the road...BUT that don't mean it didn't happen.

Look at the type of freight they carry and the areas of the US that they run..above all else find roehl in company lists under dac reports and talk to the drivers..

Ask how the maintenance is on the equipment..
Ask where most of their pick ups are and deliveries
    Home time
    Pay
    Equipment specs
    Apu's or bunk heaters
    E log or paper
    and so on...

They can break it down for you and do the same for all the companies you are considering...with six years experience behind me and starting over I've got a bit of a jump..In my area I COULD work for about 10 different starter companies. I've knocked one off my list automatically (CRE) and am talking and writing things down about the others..When I (and not the recruiters) have answered all my questions by talking to the drivers etc I will make my pick.
