Rule of thumb here. Apply for the spot you want...and stick to your guns.
Not sure of your age. But the choose your own schedule is geared more toward a person who is retired or semi retired. Load planning around your schedule, can cause it's own issues with your paycheck.
If there is an opening in inter-modal and you meet the requirements. Chances are you will be offered it. Don't sell yourself short.
Big thing....get focused on what you want. You will not be able to bounce around through the programs until you find one you like. You will, but there will be a period of waiting between moves. It could take up to 3 years to move through them all.
I know the list of options they offer can become overwhelming. But you need to take time to consider whether the choices you are considering can meet your salary expectations. What works for me, won't work for 80% of Schneider drivers.
What it boils down too. Schneider will do everything they can to keep you happy within reason. But you have to communicate your needs, while listening to theirs. They WILL meet you half way if you keep the lines of communication open.

Sounds like your saying that the regional pick your schedule thing won't make me much dough then? Kinda wondered about that. The 6-3 schedule sounded kinda nice but wondered about the pay. I'm wondering if I should do OTR for 6 mos then tried to get an Intermodal spot if one popped up.

If you elected to take the "pick your schedule". You would need a couple of months (maybe less) to get it worked out. You could actually shoot yourself in the foot, if you played it wrong.
6 and 3 would work more like a regular regional slot. With a bit more time at home. And would probaly be more like 56 hours at home. Not sure, you would need to speak with one of the guys working this schedule.
You can get miles and make money. But it's going to depend on you and your DBL communicating.
I averaged about $650 bring home a week doing a standard regional run. Home weekends.
Since moving to 14/7. I average about $500 a week. This includes the week I'm off.
Setting that in proper prospective. (Just an example)
I make $250 on my first check when I come out.
$350 my second check.
$900 for the check when I'm home.
Rinse and repeat.
Payroll runs Saturday to Saturday.
14/7 scheduling runs Wednesday to Wednesday.
So you can see, you are going to have 2 short checks.Boogers and mileagemax Thank this. -
I picked the 21/7 option out of Portland. That seemed like the best of both worlds.

I'm getting better miles now. Have just been moved to my regular board?DBL. Ran all but 12 minutes off my 70 this past week.
Its supposed to be a slip seat deal. 3 guys betwween 2 trucks. Trucks would always be on the move, allowing the planners to route you through home with one of your partners being the "relay driver" for that load.
What I am seeing now though , not being hooked up with anyone yet , are a load will carry over to the next week if I dont get it delivered on saturday. Which helps out being off three days. You'll also get more of the short run miles with accompaning extrra pay. I see those early on my time out then get hit with a couple long runs. From what I gather freight isnt running quite ike normal just yet. Seems to be picking up. As long as you dont switch divisions , my training dbl said it would nt be a problem to switch between otr and regional. Wouldnt have to wait 6 mo. If you wanted to go intermodal or one of th eother divisions , do it going in or you'd have to wait for the entire 6 mo. Intermodal req 1 yr experience first from what I saw on the job ads. -
Hey guys I just applied for OTR in Alamance, NC. What kind of yard is in Alamance? Also what kind of miles can I expect in OTR, I like to stay busy. I prefer to run 3000 a week. Do you run a lot of short haul in OTR or do you get longer loads? Im guessing it will be a mix. When running OTR do you get out west at all?
Sorry for all the questions, I just applied online and waiting to hear back. Thanks! -
Last I heard. They were avoiding sending a solo to CA. Can't answer your other Qs, I'm not OTR
