Hello everyone. You could say I'm new to trucking, but I hve been driving for just over a year now. Not tractors though, just straights, one with a sleeper. Right now I'm looking to move up from "B" to "A". I would greatly appreciate input from all as to where to go for training and placement. I live in New York, not in the city, in the outer boroughs.
For my former employers, I drove in 3 states;(NY/NJ/CT). So as you can see from that I'd like to stay regional if posible. The main reasons are; my dad is fighting cancer and I have visitation of my 6yr old on weekends.
Forgive me for putting it all out there.

Is Sayerville, NJ too far for you?...We have a terminal there that has runs in the area you desire and drivers that prefer not to run there! LOL
-
Yea.. but he will have to get a job with a company and get some time under
his belt as a class A otr driver before anyone will hire him as a local driver. -
Not far at all, it's Jersey, so it aint far. -
Are you serious man?
So I would have to go OTR anyway?
Are there any companies over here that will train and hire for regional North East or East Coast runs?
I'm really just looking for work in the field I'm in,(trucking). I like it, I want to love it, and I would like to make a career out of it. I want somethig I can stay with for years to come. I'm tired of bouncing around frm job to job,(most NY'ers). That field dries up move to the next, then the next, and the next. Every "X" amount of years a career or job change.
Not me any more. I want to make this one stick,(trucking).
Sorry about the rant. Had to get that out. -
I've been driving commercial vehicles for years now, just not trucks, untill 2010.
I fell in love with it. now don't get that statement wrong, I fell in love with it, doesn't mean I'll work for peanuts. I understand that I have to (pay my dues), that I just can't jump into it and expect the world. I'd just like to get in. Pretty please? -
Not necessarily on the OTR need if you have experience delivering NYC and a good record. People that can navigate the city and are familiar with it I would think are fairly valuable.
Get your A, then do some leg work(or phone as the case may be). Check for intermodal openings( alot of those are day cab home at night deals. -
Thanks TAZ. I'll look into it. I really don't mind being on the road weekly, then home on weekends. If that exists?

Look into moving containers.
Go to any port in the area and ask around. -
huh, I never thought about that. Good deal man, thanks.
