I have a 1996 frieghtliner fld120 it is not equipped with ABS. I pull a 2004 Great Dane flatbed that has ABS. Since my tractor does not have ABS will the ABS on my trailer still work?

trailer ABS requires 12V power supply ore 24V for European trailer.
So you need to add ABS wiring and Trailer ABS fault lamp in cabine.
Really, it is one weekend deal123456 Thanks this. -

Yes, your trailer will be fine. Trailers will still work and use the brake light power as a back up if your truck doesn't have ignition power to the trailer. No need to rewire your truck.

to get the abs on trailer to work--wouldnt you need the blue wire to have 12 volts?
-
blue is a constant power. if it is broken ABS unit uses stop light power, but ABS unit needs some delay to start up for valve check procedure and if you use panic braking with broken blue wire wheels lock for some feet then when ABS unit starts up - unlock.
This scheme with blue wire was designed for using ABS trailers with old trucktors.
In Europe we have 7 pole ABS sockets separated from lightning power. And there is constantr power and ign. power pins and ABS unit restarts every time we turn ignition on. It is better becouse valve test is actuated every time we start engine.
Newer US truckjtors have sockets for trailer ABS wiring with CAN, like in EU and you will see trailer ABS/EBS system like MID 137 on trucktor diagnostic monitor.
But you use old trucktor and when you connect lightning wiring you can hear clicking sound of ABS valve test -
I know this is a old post but the issue has come up again. Do I need to rewire my truck for center pin power or should the ABS work with a delayed response off of stop lamp power? I lease my trailer. They are telling me its my trucks fault for not having power on the blue wire. I told them ABS should use the stop lamp power if there is no power on the blue wire as a back up. They are telling me that's not true. Can anyone help?

Basically it's like this... If you make a brake application and the brake lights comes this should power the ABS module. If the module is powered and working properly the ABS light on the trailer should come and then go out while still applying the brakes. If the light does not come on at all, something is wrong. If the light comes on and stays on something is wrong. Technically if the ABS light comes on and then goes out the system is working. If you do not need the blue pin for a lift axle or anything it really isn't much to get ignition power to it with some simple rewiring.

What the above says is bang on.
