The job fair had 12 employers and a driving school (which I have seen rolling all over San Antonio stating 16 days to get your CDL, LOL). The parking lot was pretty full, saw plates from as far as MS and Idaho. Out of all the booths, Frac Tech Services and Express Energy Services had looooong lines of people :biggrin_2555:. If you are more of an executive type then National Oilwell Varco and Total Safety US had very long lines.

I'm looking for work as a driver. Pinnergy and HLI Energy Services had job openings for vac drivers but it said they need 2 years driving experience. I knew I could not get on with them but asked what I needed to do to get on. Pinnergy said if I could get on with someone and drive a tanker OTR they would give me a shot after one year. Green Field Energy services was looking for equipment operators with CDL. I spoke with them and they have some real nice equipment. They were looking for someone to operate a turbine fracturing truck and said they are the only ones using turbines. They said had I arrived 3 weeks ago they would have jumped on me because they like the fact I already have CDL but they are getting people approaching them now with operator experience so didn't want to train me.

I've rolled all over the region South and Southeast of San Antonio. See all kinds of yards with banners looking for CDL drivers but they seem to require experience. Dillion even has a tanker parked at the crossroads of two major highways with a banner stating they need CDL drivers.

I get the feeling the competition for these CDL jobs has picked up BUT I am confident if I keep pushing I will find work. I know for a FACT that sitting 1200 miles away wasn't doing me any good because I did miss an opportunity- don't want to say with who but facts are facts.

Rock doctor, Nabors hires newbies and they have shops in just about any town in the fields. The area in west Tx around Big Lake, Big Springs is looking like it will be booming soon. I was through there the last 2 day s and saw rigs everywhere. The news said natural gas was going to be slowing production but oil should be going flat out. I believe the western most towns get more oil than gas. And I think hill country gets more oil. Check Nabor.s dot com.

Yes, haven't been around much lately. Sorry.

Martin is still hiring. I still working under the same situation which is basically this:

I work 6 days / week. (Work 5 days and sleep in the truck for the first 4 nights. I get a hotel the 5th night and all day and night on the 6th day. Then my next 5 day period starts again - on the 7th day of the week.

Because it's essentially a 6 day cycle, you're day off rotates up each week. So, if you start your first day of the 5 on Monday, your day off will be on Saturday. Next week, your day off will be Friday. Then Tursday the next week, etc.

If you're from out-of-town, martin pays $120 on your day off just to reset. Getting paid to watch Hee Haw isn't too bad. (You young pups may need to ask around as to what that is.)

A few months back Martin gave us a significant pay raise. So now we're in line with most other companies pay.

I generally haul two loads / day and if everything goes right, I often times have time to preload the first for the next day. When things go right for all of your 5 days, it's not too hard to get an extra run in for the week AND get off by about 12:00 noon on your 5th day. That's what I try to do in essence, most weeks, I'm working 4.5 days - 1.5 days of - 1st days of my next 5, all equaling 7 days.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions or if you're interested in talking to one of the terminal manangers. I'd of course get a bonuse if you used my name but either way it's fine. Hope you find a good gig!

Thanks Luzon, I am very interested, live in Austin and the staying in the truck part would work out for me well. Could you PM me with your # and we could chat more on the particulars? Thanks again.

So the day after my last post my wife and I both got prehires to tank oil around the Victoria area. The company is checking our backgrounds now, if we pass that and the new physical we will start training this coming Friday.

We have relocated from San Antonio to Victoria. The housing down here seems hard to come by. We are in a motel at this time which is not as nice as the one in San Antonio but costs about 30% more :biggrin_25513:. The first few days here we didn't even have wifi.

Today we checked out some apartments but most will not take dogs over 40 pounds. We have two goldens with us who weigh about 70 pounds so this is going to be tough. Now we are looking for a house but there are not many advertised. Get one problem licked and another pops up, LOL!
