Thank you sir! I'm hoping to hear from Mavericks asap. Application has been approved but they said they will let me know a week or half to setup my orientation and training. But isn't Glass division make more money tho?
Anyone will try automatic transmission as a new truck driver straight from school?

We have brand new Volvo trucks where I'm at and they all have AT's in em.
I do NOT want to drive one. Which, is a moot point, being management has already stated noobies won't be driving them anyways lol
I actually rode in one with my trainer today. It does have a couple of good points...
Like, the 4 second trans brake that keeps you from rolling back when on a 6%+ grade until you apply throttle or 4 sec's elapse's.
It could also save some wear&tear on your legs/knees in city driving - if you do a lot of that.
Personally, it just doesn't seem right to me (as a noobie even) to drive a big truck and not shift.
Give me the 10 spd too! -

hmmm....I started driving dump trucks with 8 speed Eaton Fuller transmissions...drove one that was a 5 speed (HATED it), drove an 18 speed last year....and the boyfriend has a customer with a semi-auto transmission. Still had to clutch at a stop/start, everything else was "automatic" shift...INTERESTING, but I'd rather stick with a simple manual transmission, even in my car. Somehow it ratchets the "amusement value" to me, even in heavy traffic.

Has anyone ever tried floating gears in their personal(non CMV) vehicle?

Yes. It works and was a sign to me that I spent too much time in my truck.

i currently drive a freightliner automatic, and let me tell u if i ever sit in another automatic i would rather retire trucking for good then drive another automatic, from 2 gear selectors to clutch to tranny issues, it all connects in someway and nothing but issues i hate it,
i personally love the 13speed i would take over 10 anyday not necessarily any easier to learn its just a personal preference -
I remember one day my truck was in the shop, they dropped off a sub-unit, had an Automatic. I kid you not, All Flipppin day, My hand would keep looking for the shifter. Drove me nuts. Never again.
Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
