Usually just a light tap is all it takes, especially if you are low in the RPM's.
carlos715 Thanks this. -
usually i bring it up to 12 and it grinds should i do a litlle less
-
If it wont go in, go up a gear .
Peacecarlos715 Thanks this. -
I just give it a little tap. Of course no one can tell you for sure how much to bring the engine up since all trucks are different. Just relax and be safe during your road test. They know drivers miss gears once in awhile and safety is your key.
carlos715 and lonewolf4ad Thank this. -
ok thanks safety is first

usually a bump of 300 to 400 rpm is enough..depending on ground speed..it could be your ground speed is too slow for the gear you are selecting..
see others posts..up or down if you are empty and brake..you can skip a gear on the way down..which would require a bit higher bump depending on ground speed.
If you are just out of school and are due to go out with a trainer they probably wo't say too much o the gear shifting..its an acquired skill. If you have been out with a trainer already and are still having problems with down shifting, tell them you need another week with trainer before you feel you will be ready..and drive that week..as much as possible..and run the gears as much as possible to get the timing down..
Again..shifting one of these is all about timing..rush a shift and you will grid the gears..most people down shifting are rushing their shift or are too aggressive on their rpm bump..
Deep breath, relax, clutch to neutral, bump, clutch to gear

ok just wanna make sure same question but if im in a faster speed and rpm around 11 9th wanting to ski to 6th i would have to rev it up around 20rpm iam i right
-
Peterbeatinit thanks it was very helpful

Yeah..you would still bump it a bit higher than 8th...
This might help you too..
When you shift up..watch the tach and see what the rpm drops to..usually about 900 rpm or so..
so when you are slowing down..wait to down shift till you hit 900 rpm..bump to 1500 which is usually when you upshift..as the tach starts to fall back off..clutch and apply light pressure in the direction of the gear you want to go in to..the gear shift will move and kind of pause..you'll feel it..when the rpms match between engine and trans just right..that light pressure will disappear and it will almost be like the gear shift is moving on its own..don't force it in..she'll go in when she's ready...if it doesn't..bump again and go next lower...apply a bit more pressure..
If you are trying to force it..of course its going to grind...the trans isn't ready..I would teach my students..pointer finger and thumb only on the gear shift..on my 13 speed I had at the time there was a definite pause in the throw of the shifter they would feel while they had the clutch in waiting on rpms to fall to that magic spot..then it would go in like a hit knife through butter..It does't take a lot of force..a lot of times when they ground the gears they were trying to force the trans into gear..big no no..slow down..just use finger and thumb on the shifter..you'll feel that magic spot..it will pop in when rpms match
