What is the best option for a couple interested in Team Driving, as company drivers or as Lease Operators? We are about to go to the notorious CR England School for free to become drivers, any opinions?

Recommend going company team until you are both 100% sure that this is the career and company for you both.

You call CRE notorious which I think u mean notorious bad reputation? So if u know how bad they are then why risk their free schooling when chances are you won't last a yr there.Hardly anybody does I wish u luck though. Now why would you want to lease?Do you even have an ounce of knowledge what trucking is all about?

I recommend going to almost any other school than CRE. I admit I've never worked for them just NEVER hear anything good about them.:biggrin_25513:
Think about this, How good will your training be when the trainer is sleeping while your driving? What are you going to do when all of a sudden you run into snow and ice and find out your trainer ONLY HAS 6 MO of exp.?:biggrin_25513:
Add to all that and the fact your already thinking of a fleece and your just asking to be fleeced in a lease.
If you can afford it PAY for your schooling, check the local collage and check with your local employement office they might even pay for it!
But what ever you do, DO NOT SIGN A LEASE!!! Get some experince a learn on someone else's truck!

Besides what Dewy said, you're putting the cart before the horse. The only thing you should be worrying about at this point is simply gettin through school. Both you and your wife have to both get over that hurdle before you can even begin to think about what you're going to do.

I am asking because we are being forced to look at all options. It may be nice to choose what you do for a living but after I was fleeced by a business partner I have to do what I have to do. Been unemployed and have applied to more jobs than most of the people ever even consider. I even trained to go work in Afghanistan and still may.

Anyway I always look at all the questions I need to ask BEFORE I start the first step. If there is no good way to make money I will bail and look to another option, we all can't do what we love. I have been researching and this was a question I was looking for an answer for and Thank You Dewey for a simple non sarcastic answer.

As far as getting through school, I just completed a school for Airborne surveillance systems I think I can manage CDL school.

And yes I realize CR England is a notorious company but no one else is offering free schools so I am limited to what I can get as I have no money after extended unemployment.

And lastly Pattyj I survived a submarine, working for the military and running a business for years.. a bad partner and a huge economic downturn. I think I can handle a truck... and figure out "what trucking is all about"....

You may want to look at other options ... CRE won't supply the stroking your ego appears to need.

just relaying his history doesn't sound like ego stroking to me. I owned my own buisness for 38 years but yet here i am as a newbie driving truck. My credentials are very long but they didn't get me a job so here I am
Good Luck to you connsmith after take the skills you have learned in life and apply them to this job you will be ok
there are plenty of ppl on this site who think if they knock someone else down they look better ignore them
every company has it's downfalls it is our expectations that get us into trouble Take what you need and leave the rest. I learned these lessons in AA but they apply to the rest of the human race too

Learn how to walk before you think about learning how to swim backward.

Get the CDL, get the training, stay team company for AT LEAST one year. This gives you and your wife the opportunity to decide whether driving is right for you and the relationship. In the meantime, while you and she are company team drivers - learn the basics of fuel management, budgeting, proper maintenance and all the other aspects of a trucking business. SAVE your money throughout the year to purchase a truck. Further, get Sirius XM radio and LISTEN to the many words of advice coming from many drivers, guests, hosts and co-hosts of the radio shows. LISTEN to these radio shows to gain all the knowledge you need to own and operate a trucking business.

After AND ONLY AFTER one year - turn in your keys to the company truck, and DON'T LEASE. BUY. BUY. BUY. BUY used, but DO NOT LEASE. DO NOT LEASE on a train, DO NOT LEASE when money's on the brain, DO NOT LEASE in a plane, DO NOT LEASE when it rains. Eat all the green eggs and ham, but DO NOT LEASE for the love of Sam!

I am a Lease Operator with C. R. England and am doing rather well, but NO LEASE is a good lease. Ownership of a truck is the BEST way to go. If you cannot save the money through the year to buy a truck after one year, then leasing is definately not the way to go. And, maybe.... owning a trucking operation is probably not in your best interests either.

Own the truck, have capital ready, and be liquid. DO NOT LEASE!

Other than that - the lease program is a great program!
