I bought a gallon of acid from Kewworth today. Says it's good for brightening alum wheels and stainless parts.
I want to restore my dirty stainless doors on my reefer. Any tips on making those doors shine?
"Brightener" for aluminum / stainless

wash well, after use, better with pressure wash.
use soda to clean rubber parts, else they crack soon with acidVisionLogistics Thanks this. -
Careful with acid on already polished parts. Acid works very good for cleaning up neglected aluminum prior to polishing but I've never heard of it help keep polished parts shinny.

This.. It's good if what you have isn't good to begin with.. If it's stainless it really wont matter, It doesn't oxidate like Aluminum.VisionLogistics Thanks this.

Oh wow! Thanks for the tip! I would have tested it out first, but that's really helpful to know! The stainless trailer doors are not the diamond type, but the smooth type, so I want em to shine like a mirror. Right now they are so dirty and used that they look like a shiny white painted door almost. I think I will take the doors off and remove the hardware, restoring it, and put new door seals on before I rehang them.
So what would be the best protocol for getting that shine back? -
Here's the product: http://www.fppf.com/index.php/component/catalog/?task=catalog.product&id=29
Says stainless steel and aluminum. I'll take some before / after pics when I do it. -
Have your doors polished is the only way to get them to look new again .
Anyone who knows how to high speed buff should be able to do them for you . -
I bet with stainless the acid will leave them with a white film. If anything, look for citric acid. Last time I was at the Blue Beacon, they did my truck with the citric acid and it did wonders, brightened the aluminum with out turning it white.

That particular product contains:
Hydrofluoric acid
Sulfuric acid
Ethylene glycol
Those are the active ingredients.VisionLogistics Thanks this. -
I like Bar Keepers Friend, not sure if this is right name but it's something like that and can be purchased at hardware, or dollar stores. This will not scratch the shine like Comet or Ajax, but will usually remove the film. I use my long handle wash brush and sprinkle the powder on the brush pretty heavy and scrub the wet door, then rinse very thorough to prevent white residue, then with a ladder hand polish with a good polish from a chrome shop. Should look good, if not repeat the polishing again.
