Off in his own little world listening to his headphones, not paying attention to what is going on in the world around him. Couple that with the fact that most people (apparently even some who pretend to be truck drivers) don't understand that the trailer isn't going to follow the same path as the tractor around a corner. He may have seen the truck go around the turn...and didn't realize the trailer was coming right at him.

He was a homeless man, so he was probably sleeping or resting on the sidewalk. The driver was probably a rookie, most drivers I think are smart enough to make a wide turn and look in the mirror to see where the trailer is. Seems like the driver forgot he was not driving a car.

I have seen trucks do these kind of turns really fast only to see their tandems bounce off the curb or scrape a power pole or take down a sign. This has also happened at truckstops I read it on another thread also where one of our own was ran over by another driver who was speeding thru the parking lot made a turn and forgot the trailer offtracks! So to all drivers please always be aware of your turns and off tracking and dont speed thru them!
flightwatch Thanks this. -
Seems the accident happened at night and on the drivers blind side so he probably didn't see the man sitting on the curb who may also have been dozing/sleeping. Or maybe he sat down on the curb as the driver was making his turn. Aweful way to go!

i'm from that area, not much reason for a truck to turn there. that road doesn't really go any where. Driver was most likely making rash decision to turn around to get back on highway

The trailer number looks like SD300. Could that help any? I can not believe that they can not enhance this picture any.

i can Socorro is really backwards and many crimes don't get solved until the state gets involved
