Dumb question about alcohol and trucking companies

Seems like the laws are more liberal than most of the drivers. Basically, if you haven't drank 4 hours prior to driving AND your BAC is under .04, you're fine. That being said, your company may have a zero alcohol policy.

I'm not a sloppy ### drunk (yet), but I do like a few drinks before bed. Nothing wrong, company rules permitting, with stocking your truck and having a few when you're off. Your sleeper is your home (again, unless owned by a company who says no booze in their home).

You WILL be placed out of service if you have alcohol in the cab of your truck. If you need a beer to get to sleep at nite, you best seek help NOW. I would not want to be on the road near you if you are a driver.

 

Under .04 you are not fine..your are OUT OF SERVICE

 

If you own a truck, you are still subject to DOT inspections, if you refuse...hope you have a line-up on a new career. You drive on their roads you are subject to their rules...period, end-of-story...deal with it...

Harsh? Yeah...I get touchy when it comes to alcohol abuse. I know, I am a former alcoholic...and there is no room for it in your truck or on the road.

 

I drink when i go home. On new years our company has a mandatory shut down. I would have got a motel room and welcomed 2012. All legal. I would just make sure I was COMPLETELY sober before even thinking about driving. Our company policy is no alcohol in, on, or near company property, leased, rented or owned. I was disappointed during orientation cuz we couldn't drink in the hotel room since roehl payed for the room. But no big deal. I have drank less ever since getting into this career. Now I only drink on hometime.

It's not that I like to have a drink...I used to have a problem of having one after another...I was lucky that I never got in an accident. Now that I know I had a problem...have a problem, I force myself to drink at home or at the family's, and only ONE...two hours later then I will drive. It's tough, and now that I have a CDL...this is my income, and I must protect that privilage...no more drinking for me. Gonna keep my arse clean.

 

This is wrong in so many ways. Your home does not travel public highways. Your truck does and is therefore subject to DOT in all circumstances at all times. Even when you're parked. It's called Care and Control. As long as you have the possibility of starting and moving that truck you are liable. Logbook does not enter into the discussion.

New Drivers... do not EVER have booze in your truck. If you get DOT'd (or God Forbid have an accident) and they find even an empty in your garbage you will be written up and your company notified. Your career may well be over. It just ain't worth it.

 

what it means is, NO POSITIVE test results EVER in your life as a human being. (they will do back ground checks on you, like DAC, etc,etc)

No, there is nothing wrong with it at all if one is responsible. Heck, they sell it on all the truckstops. Just buy a couple stovepipes and double bag it. Be inconspicuous and drink it out of a cup or close the curtains. Then go to bed. If you drink, you know there are two types of drinkers. The ones that can't stop until the last beer is gone, the bar closes or until they pass out have no business drinking in the industry.

There was a truck driver last year out in CO. He got drunk and drove down the wrong side of the interstate killing two people. Ones like him don't even need to start.
