A Penske truck was most likely governed. I'd say the 85 is taking advantage of gravity.

Either way that truck has seen some abuse.
Running it out of gear, or at high rpm to reach that speed can't have been good for tranny and rears.
Back in the day we ripped out many a rear to "go fast down."
Like rental cars, leased trucks seem to be driven with the "they have another if this one breaks" attitude.
Running the pto at high rpm is another warning sign. Most pto units arent designed to run above about 1,500 rpm. Another warning sign to me that operators didnt take good care of it.
Good luck with it.
Hope you have some emergency repair money on hand. -

I'm buying a used tractor in SLC at Peterbilt and I need to drive it home to SLC to get it setup for work.
Do I need ELD?
Is a paper log OK to transport it?
Is putting a sign stating IN TRANSIT on the windshield OK along with sale paperwork and insurance acceptable?
Thanks -
I don’t know about SLC, or even what state you’re referring to. But in my State of Michigan, I’m allowed to drive any Vehicle home, after purchasing. Without a plate. Title, receipt,my Insurance covers Me, regardless of what I’m driving. As far as collision coverage, to repair the vehicle I just bought, that’s not covered till it’s insured. A semi, bobtail is considered a personal vehicle, till it’s under Contract, or plated/registered with a commercial plate. I don’t see why a logbook would be required. A lot of grey area. Why not just Transfer Title, and get a temp plate? IMO, you’ve got insurance, that’s the main thing, as far as Liability. The rest can be dealt with, if needed. I bought mine in Ga. through a Chrysler used Car Lot. Owners brother was the Manager. They did title work, and gave Me a paper temp Ga. tag, as if it were a car. I took a chance, even ran freight home. But I was desperate financially at the time. Desperate times, Desperate measures.
Edjahman Thanks this.
