Hey Chrome I think I was more talking about are you using up your 11 for driving. As we all know. Burning up a 14 and getting about 4hrs of drive time in doing it isn't hard. I see that you are on a dedicated or regional type gig so. You might not be of help for those who may want to know how things are done at Heartland express. I believe we all know you don't have to run 2500 to 3000 miles per week if you are making .48plus a mile. I'm more interested on the average like what type of loads for the avg otr guy if they even have otr anymore.

For instance. My load today I dh to CT from the Bronx 68mt miles then load to Greensboro NC 595 delivers tmrw with a window from 8am-1600. I should be there by 11-1130. Next load I dh to Catawba,SC 124mt deliver in Newton IA 1006 @ 1600. friday.

Now what I didn't say is my pay period ends on Thursday. So the Iowa load goes on next pay period check. I see alot of that type of stuff going on. No need to mislead folks. Just give people an honest look @ what they are in for. Maybe Trustee has been there for 10years so he is getting better miles the guys who just starts.

I think giving people a look at your daily runs. Instead of just putting 2400*.48=a gazillion dollars will help get more drivers to what it seems a pretty decent company. You guys have a good night. God bless

I am not OTR at all. I run east of the river. Mostly MI, OH, NY, PA, IL, IN
And I also do not get .48 cpm, since I am not system. Which is the OTR drivers.
Columbus regional caps out at .43 cpm, plus 1 cpm yearly safety bonus, and 1 cpm if you have hazmat. So most I could get on a mileage rate is .45 in this region.
Northeast region is several cents higher, plus has green miles. Which is all miles East of I-81 and north of MD. That is an extra .04 cpm for all miles in that area.

The hours I drive each day really depends on where I am running. And the load. When I take a load to Buffalo, that is only 360 miles. And that is most of my running that day. Allot of the time I get into Columbus late Thursday. And all the Buffalo loads leave after 1500 on Friday. Most do not go out till after 1800. So I sit on Friday a good bit of the day at the terminal. I try and set up all maintenance I need on the truck for Fridays due to this. So I never loose time that I need for service.

It is rare that I work a full 14 and do not drive most of it. Most of our shippers are drop and hook. Delivery's is where we sit at times. I would say my main sitting time is in the terminal though. Or an extra couple hours on breaks when I need to set up for my next load and I have windows to work with. Which I do most of the time.

Like this week for instance has been a little slow.
Picked up Friday morning in Buffalo. Drove load home.
Left the house at 0300 Monday, to stage for later runs. I had to deliver by noon in Flint MI. Could have headed out as late as 0500. But chose to go early.
I delivered that load. Deadheaded to Romulus MI (South of Detroit).

Picked up at 2300 in Romulus Monday.
Delivered Tuesday at 0800 in Evansville IN this morning.
Picked up in Owensboro KY this evening when break was over. And that is due in Allentown PA by 2200 tomorrow.

I have had some issues with my AC this week though. Since I got this truck in November I have not used AC. Found out Monday that the AC in sleeper is not working. So could not sleep well Monday or Tuesday.
Thus I set up to stop early tonight. So I could run mostly in the day tomorrow and get a good night sleep. Which I am getting ready to get to now lol.
I do not like doing that. I would have preferred to run 650 miles off this thing tonight. So that I would have hours to run back to Columbus when empty. But I needed sleep more.

I am too tired to figure out all the miles on those loads by the way. Which is why I did not include the miles. But not a bad milage week so far.
Home to Flint was around 470.
Flint to Romulus was close to 80.
Romulus to Evansville was about 475.
    Evansville to Owensboro is 55.
Owensboro to Allentown is about 780. I am 480 from there now. Just due to needing to swap back to daytime driving. And catching up on sleep while it is cool. Should have AC fixed by Friday at the latest.

So figure I have run 1380 as of right now for the week. Not great, but not bad.I will be over 1800 by the end of the day. Then will probibly get a load to Columbus from Allentown area or Carlisle, which is around 400 miles or so. Then 360 to Buffalo to end the week. But that load will probibly not deliver till after midnight friday early saturday morning. So will be on next weeks pay.

So you will end up with 2200 miles this week (on a slow week), would have been 2560 miles if the Buffalo trip had gone on this week's pay? At 43 cents plus 1 cent hazmat would put you over $950 this week?

Yes, will gross right around that this week. And be home by 10 AM or so on Saturday morning. That is what I am guessing at least. I have not gotten my plan for coming out of the northeast yet. So may or may not be straight trip back. That was shortest possible miles back. ANd maybe a little too short lol.
I am guessing I will have 2300 this week. Just a feeling.

Since we have 14 hours we can possibly run in a day. I have a tendency of running all the miles I can on each side of that 10 hour break I have to take. So might have 250. Take a 10, then run another 350-400 after break.
I do not watch my miles as I run for the week. I just check it at payday. To make sure it is ok.
If I try and look at it during the week. My mind will tell me I am sitting too much. But if I look at it on paycheck it is ok. I am getting fair pay, and not killing myself trying to run 3500 miles per week.
I have had jobs where I did that. Heck I was on a 3200 mile per week dedicated at Central. But I was only home part of 1 day a week. And never got a restart.
This way I restart every weekend. And never have to worry about running recap.

I agree looking at the daily runs might be interesting, but also he is making the point that if you stop and look at every run individually it might not feel like you are doing much at times - but when he looks at his gross pay at the end of the week he is good. also at 48 cents you don't have to drive a gazillion mile to make respectable money. Some people are so conditioned to thinking you have to run over 3000 miles a week to make good money. You have a good night too!
