Firemen also wear ear protection in the engines

    I addressed that earlier.

They are not wearing hearing protection in fire trucks.

I used to wear an ear plug in my right ear when I was toting an M60, :smt067now I have a noticeable loss in my left ear. Of course a couple of decades of wind noise and the window down probably didn't help!

And of course the noise levels that the truck manufacturers report are with the windows up.

Thanks for all the "kind" opinons. I simply asked a question of legalities and hoped some one who was familar with the Regulations could answer the questions.
I will know better than to do that again.

    D.Tibbitt and 123456 Thank this.

I hear perfectly fine with earplugs on, dont drive with them on. I do however drive with my headphones on while blasting my tunes, never got a second glance from a dot occifer or any other cop. I take them off when going thru scales, getting off freeway, etc

I looked around the web for bit. As near as I can tell there is no law preventing someone from wearing ear protection while driving. All of the laws I read were about wearing headphones or earbuds.

here is a link, about 21 states prohibit wearing headphones.

However I do what jimbo2 does, I drive with a set of big gamer headphones on when I'm listening to audiobooks and take them off when going thru scales. I find that for open road driving I find myself paying more visual attention to my surroundings when I have the headphones on. I think I do it as a natural means of compensating for the reduction in distance noise. In city or heavy traffic (any stressful driving situation really) I drive with the headphones and radio off, and both windows down a bit.

You actually got some good insight on this thread. Ignore the bad comments (aka, grow some thick skin) and just reply to those who are trying to help.

Driving a loud truck without hearing protection is Like speeding. It might be okay for awhile, but keep it up long enough and it'll bite ya. Some of the dumps I've been in were so loud, my balance was seriously affected at the end of the day...and that's with windows up!

BS I wore NOISE CANCELLING headphones for a whole mother truckin year.

I could still hear people fighting on the street where I was delivering, horns, sirens etc.

For me it muffled all the hoopla a semi rig makes. Reduced migraines. Helped me sleep like a baby at night. Cuz of no migraines.

If done right it can work. Legislative bodies should look into how this can work.
