In my '12 T700 with an ISX, the oil temp for as long as I've been in this truck has always read 220 degrees, no matter outside temp, load or terrain. Two weeks ago, suddenly began running at 230 and has spiked up to 240 degrees, even though I was on flat ground and had a light load. I know the ambient temperature is higher, but I can't imagine what it will read when it's 100 degrees outside in August and I have a heavy load. Should I not worry, or is the oil cooler not doing its job properly?

Do NOT worry about this, We own a 2012 W900L with the ISX600 and the temp is the same.. My father actually said to me one day "Look how high the oil temp goes!".

Posted a question about this some time ago for '07 model. Cummins doesn't seem concerned so long as temp doesn't get over 250, since that seems to be the accepted level at which the conventional oil may begin to break down. I realize water is supposed to be liquid at 33 and frozen at 32; maybe oil suddenly "falls apart" at exactly 250. Right??

Mr. Haney tells me a EGR delete will drop the temp maybe 20 or so degrees. Trying to get my pennies together to find out!

I saw it go as high as 250 degrees. This is how the new motors operate.

Yep pull a heavy load, 160k gross with a 05 kw and ISX it's always at 240 unless going down hill.

I researched it some earlier. IIRC cummins takes temp before the cooler, while the cat takes temp after the cooler.

I know I’m late on this but the oil temperature is getting to hot. My 09 peterbilt with the isx 550 got up to 250f on oil and cracked the head and blowed the gasket. I’m currently looking for the dual core housing to put in mine. But from what I understand cummins has quit making the dual cooler. If anybody knows what to do to fix it I’d appreciate it. And why the hell would cummins stop making something that fixs their junk!!

I fixed this. I blowed the cummins up and put a cat in it. Best thing I have done to this truck.
