I remember a group of guys back in the 70's that would put 80-100K on the deck and head for LA . Leave friday afternoon from Oh. deliver LA monday AM. And i'm not talking about permit loads either. By the way some of those guys were Teamsters leased to Time-DC,one of the great ones. And then load a load of Moonlight freight for one of the old time brokers out of LA going east. High, wide and heavy. Let's see there was also Melvin Atkin,A of I king of the heavy haulers. He had appliance white cabs with John Deere green frames, like Melvin used to say green like money. It was one of Melvins guys(pretty sure the drivers name was Vinney) got caught in Lodi,Oh. with somewhere in the neighborhood of 400K on the deck. I said it right too! P.S. There's still guys out there doing their thing, they just don't advertise it. Got all the CB police out there today, don't know how to keep their mouths shut. Eyes and ears open, mouth shut, mind your own business.

do you know of a wildcatter? where can i find one?
-
As for me glamorizing criminals, the real criminal is our government. These guys are small time compared to the government. I don't mean to "glamorize criminals," I was born this way.

Very seldom heard that term. The old timers used words like moonlighters, heavy haulers, ect. Sometimes you would hear gypsy, never cared for that one.
-
Moonlighting meant you were moving freight with no authority,no licensing. Some guys ran with no insurence, but most had it. A lot of guys made it look like they bought and sold various freight items to get around the authority thing. In other words they were just hauling their own property. Many guys used the word Enterprises in their company name that way it covered a lot of bases.

Any other questions? I'm available. I know how much of a PITA it can be to do school-related research...PHXKendra Thanks this.

I've been around the world a few times. I'm on about the 80th chapter right now. I choose not to tell my whole life story on the internet!

What we called wildcatting was doing a lot of trip leasing that wasn't really legal the way the laws were before dereg. BOL's for exempt commodities were easy to fake in the pre computer days.

What about the bedders who haul crushed cars....They get paid by weight....And most times they're lucky to get $20 a ton....So it's not uncommon to see them running way over on the two-laners....
