Hello everyone my name is Robert, I live in Sarasota, FL I have 3 years of experience driving commercial vehicles and I'm here because I have a few questions and I think this is the best place to get the answers.#

I know other people have asked this questions before but i think evert case is different. well, I'm thinking of leasing a straight truck (24 or 26 feet) to work on my own. I am already approved in a truck dealer but before taking that step I need to know where can I work because I can not afford to have my truck stopped without working. I will tell you guys exactly what I'm looking for and what I'm #not looking for so y'all #can get a better idea.#

1.I'm looking for a good company that I can work for and Can give me loads every day or at least every week.#

    2. I want to work only in Florida or maybe go to Georgia and Alabama.

3.I'm not interested in OTR jobs.#

    4.I'm not interested in a tractor-trailer.#

5.I know it's hard but I'm not trying to get rich with this, just to have some independence.#

So now that you guys know what #I really want here are my questions:#

1.Does Anybody know about a good company that have loads here in Florida?#

2.How much can I make with a 24 or 26 feet truck working only inside of florida? (I have hazmat)#

3.What permits do I need to operate a truck (24 or 26 feet) in FL and how much they cost?#

I want to let you guys know that I've call companies like u.s. xpress and fedex but they are looking for OTR candidates and I'm not interested in that.#

Well thanks for reading guys, all your answers will be welcome and thank you very much in advance for your tips.

    Robert M.#

Well good luck with that cuz an't much coming out of Florida, even the mega carriers wouldn't hire drivers for that same reason. If your going to be picky your not going to make it,not down here anyway.I would look into starting a moving business or something like that.

Hello Bigarmin88. Well I know it's hard here in FL. Today I called Estes express and they told me that they don't have anything around this area. I'm also thinking about getting a dump truck but they are really expensive.

    Thank you.

Have you tried the furniture companies in state only? Some of the places in Sarasota you can only get into with a straight truck. that is if you are able to deliver the furniture.

Hi Sam. Well I don't have any problems delivering furniture but I think I will need a helper for that right? Do you remember the name of the places that you are talking about.

    Thanks.

Dump truck would be the same unless you know few companies that will give you work.If you look under the transportation job postings on Craigslist(Tampa),there use to be an opening for dump truck O/O's and I think they where offering $75 per load.I would call around first before getting a dump truck,I think a dump truck might get you more work but you will be traveling all over Florida.I used have a buddy back in PA who owned a few dump trucks and made very good money but he took jobs in NY/NJ/DE and sometimes as far south of southern VA.I work for him a while as a driver and was bringing home close to $900 a wk but this was back in 07 before the country down turn.

I think that will be a better idea, I know there are a few companies around this area looking for dump trucks o/o the only problem is the value of the dump trucks.

    Thanks.

A new Menards store is opening in town here and they are looking for 2 O/O's to deliver to customers. Most of the big retail stores contract out furniture and appliance delivery. I think Admiral Merchants has a lot of the contracts.
Eastern Seaboard Packaging in Orlando has the contract to supply boxes to all UHaul stores in FL . They also deliver to the major van lines. Their busy season is approaching. They might be interested in contracting deliveries.
