    Just remember, recruiters often have a very weak association with the truth. Get anything that is very important to you and your wife in writing if possible. If they won't put it in writing, it probably is not true.

    Actually, you will have to do that if you get caught in a storm in the Cascades around Donner Pass. If the sign says you MUST chain, then you must do it. You won't be able to pull over and wait the storm out on a ramp or in a pull-out area, nope. Better keep up with weather reports if you're running I-80 in Cally and don't want to chain up. The DOT will force you to chain or they'll call the tow man (and then fine you).

    I believe Cally is like Colorado. If you don't chain and get stuck but then DO chain, they'll still fine you for blocking traffic while you throw the links on. I never found out if this is true. I just chained up when I needed to, before getting stuck.

    Actually Donner Pass runs through the Sierras. And yes, they are quick to fine you for blocking traffic.

    Yeah, that's right. The Cascades run through Oregon and Washington. I was thinking Cabbage.

    Hey there - I would have PM'ed you but I am a new member and apparently I cannot PM until I have 50 posts. I know about Dot-Line but the other 'Transportation' have not heard of...perhaps you could PM me with the web addy..thanks alot.

    I know a team currently working with Interstate and they say that even though they tell you in orientation tht you must chain up everytime - they dont actually enforce it...thats what they told me, dont know if it is true or not...~s~

    Chains are for getting out of trouble not getting into it.........:biggrin_25525:

    That was fuuny as can be, I can seee the look on your face when they accused her of being a prostitute. I know what the look on mine would have been. Don't know if I would have gotten mad or started laughing which would have made the whole thing worse.

    One more recommendation for Interstate. We run as a team and are treated very well.. great miles, great dispatcher, etc. One of our complaints, however, is that they tend to LOVE to send you across I-70 and through Vale during the winter. In our opinion, no truck should have to take that route if it is snowy and icy, unless they have a delivery along the route. Our theory is also the one that chains are to get you OUT of trouble not to get you into trouble, so whenever we are routed in that direction, we get online and check out the webcams that are situated all along I-70 and if it looks bad, we will go around it. The miles are only slightly longer, but safety is our main priority. So far, we have never been questioned about it, and I suppose if it came down to the point of getting fired for being too safe? so be it... I wouldn't want to work for a company with that attitude. I know that there are still a lot of folks out there without computers in their trucks, but they sure do make life easier out here. Also in regards to the chaining issue, these stats were taken from the last safety meeting comparing winter driving accidents for the past 3 seasons:

    Trucks with snow chains NOT installed but should have been

    2003-2004---87
    2004-2005---67
    2005-2006---62

    Total -- 216
    Trucks with snow chains installed:

    2003-2004---0
    2004-2005--0
    2005-2006--0

    Total--0

    I think thats says it all right there.
