Thanks for all of the responses'but does anyone know if there is anything about California regulations that would make this combination popular in this state specifically?

Has anyone even seen the term "California Truck" before?

Taken from the Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers Manual...

I can not remember seeing these much here in Ohio until the past year or so, now I see a couple a week.

I do know the difference, thank you. Doubles are even easier to scale than a truck & trailer. (Harder to back up though)

Cali style trucks are really popular here and in EU. Europeans are usually 6x2 with lift axe, they understand that traction is better so they use 6x2.
Europeans call cali truck combo, anyway it is the same))) LOL

Backing with cali truck needs some habits and you have to drop trailer to unload a truck and when it is bad weather it is so..... eeeee.. ####@@#@#!!!

one other thing - if truck and trailer got no EBS you need trailer hand brake to avoid jacknifing on skid road.

Important for East Europe... You cant tow over 45' semitrailer in Poland, but 22.5 m combo. Roads are narrow with sharp turns.

Unfortunatly I can use combo ore b-double for loads from my town becouse we move 40' tubes from Lugansk Tube plant....

Good thing are cali style refers for tight yards.

And pay attention that with BDF subframe and BDF container chassis you can easily move two 20' containers

And I wanna you pay attention on small Canadian compny

    http://www.mammothtrucks.com/euroamerican.htm

They purchase European cabs from JYs and convert conventional truck to cabover. Really easy to find a glyder ore chassis w/o cab.

Step #2 - container subframe ore body + hitch and this is the cheapest way to build cabover straight truck

    king Q Thanks this.
