As some of you know I sold my t/t a few weeks ago and decided that after 25 years of chargeable accident and ticket free otr I was done. I applied at a few co's for local driving positions but was either not considered or it was too slow yet to hire so I decicded to go outside the box. I was offered a job more or less at my local bank as a personal banker (loan apps, annuities, etc) I decided that it would be to expensive to replace my wardrobe which consists of one ill fitting suit for weddings and funerals and blue jeans, shirts and t-shirts, I have no Dockers or Polo golf shirts.
I also applied online as a counter sales associate at O'reilly auto parts, I put my location in and within 24 hours I had an interview at a store 15 miles from my house. I interviewed and based on the salt in my hair I was offered an assitant mgr's position, the pay is lousy but the way I figure things it is one more line in my resume of Co. driver, O/O, heavy truck mechanic and independant.
I'll give no more than 8 months and review my options then, if things are going good I'll stick it out for a couple years to give myself some experiance, if not I'm going to go to a 7 on 7 off co. and run regional or buy another t/t and run regional as an indy again.
What I have never done is manage people, this could be interesting.
It's one of the few things I haven't done.

Just talk to yourself a lot, punch the wall or counter a few times when there are no customers around. For no apparent reason of course.
And the entire staff will give you a wide berth. Or at least find SOMETHING to do when they see you coming.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Depending where you live in Wi.,i would wait for construction season to get rolling and get on driving construction. You probably would need some dump truck experience. I sold out myself and have Plans A & B in place. I've got an edge due to working at this some years ago. It is seasonal work, but i don't care i'll sit home in the winter and draw unemployment. Dealing with the some of the people who frequent parts stores would be a real test for me.
