But, but, but, if it wasn't for the EPA looking out for YOU today, you would be drinking dirty water, breathing dirty air, your children would suffer.

Blah, have no interest in Navistar trucks in terms of owning one. Just this EPA along with sister CARB have too much power. There is no balance to this crap & if they choose to tell the mfg to make trucks run off of used sunflower shells, it is just suppose to happen(with the push of fines adding to their power).

MAN had the similar problem in EU. They introdused PM KAT with EGR on D20 and D28 engines in 2004, it is really advanced DPF and advanced EGR in combination with CRD injection. But they hit the bullet apdating D28 to Euro-V, and.. they got something like advanced Euro-IV but not Euro-V. Euro V are all DEF anyway, but they concidered that this engine is ready to EPA and introdused it in USA as Maxxforce. The marketing point is that they meet EPA w/o SCR/DEF. But really new engine is ready to pass the emission test, newer - sometimes not, and no fault codes... So EPA wants to make engines clean. And seems to me the will sell D28 with DEF next year, like in Europe

They are still selling big bore engines in CARB compliant states, without a $1900 surcharge. $1900 really isn't that much of a penalty on a $120,000 sleeper if the dealer were forced to collect for it.

yep, CAT and M.A.N wanted to avoid DEF SCR technology. They know about reliablity issues and how drivers hate have one more tank, one more hedache where to fill SCR tank and how many mistakes were with Diesel in DEF tank.

They all know how cat. converters may be clogged if DEF maker use deminiralized water (distiled is expencive).... so I'd prefere non DEF engine

Yep, on their way to making a crap load of money again this quarter, all without the hassle of the truck engines.

Please leave facts out of this!:biggrin_2559:
People just have no idea how small of a niche the truck engine market was to Cat.

Yeah ok guys, guess what kind of forum this is? A Trucking Forum for Trucks not bulldozers, excavators, or logging skidders. We are talking about over the road engines, and how Navistar can't meet EPA requirements which is kind of ironic since they are in a marriage with CAT now for their class 8 truck.
