Hey ya'll
I've been researching amps for awhile and have been looking for a suitable amp for my CB. I'm running a Uniden PC68LTW @ the standard 4w. I'm using a 4' Firestik II antenna with an SWR of 1:1.1 . I've been looking into Fat boy "Trucker" amps. However, I don't know what class they are (A, AB, C). If I'm not mistaken, a typical AM 40ch Cb radio should avoid using a C class amp because of distortion issues. So, if anyone has any ideas/suggestions, I'd be happy to hear 'em.

The Fatboy is more than likely Class C as most, if not all, of their ampifiers are.

If you can have your radio modified slightly to reduce the carrier (key up power not talking) to 1.75-2w, you can run this amp and do 120w + in a small package. This is a class AB

Otherwise XForce makes a class B biased amp along the same lines of the "trucker" you looked at called TNT350 and you can use that with the radio just like it is. You will need to run that direct +/- to the batter with 8ga wire and fise the + line right at the battery with a 50a fuse.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to do a little more research on RM Italy and TNT and see what I can find.

Both of those products I have sold and used personally for more than 10 years.

All right, I'm now set on buying an X-Force TNT 350HD amp(Thanks to Rollingradios). I've read some good reviews about the amp and it's in my price range. What do I need to do next? (...other than actually wiring up the amp after I buy it...)
Once again, I'm using a Uniden PC68LTW that has been p&t'd. I have a 4W dead-key, a run-of-the-mill Radio shack SWR/Power meter, and a Firestik II 4' antenna rated @ 900W.
Do I need anything else or does anything else need to be done to my radio to insure that when I route my radio through the amp, I don't set my jeep on fire
Thanks for the help -
Just hook it up and go. Be sure to use at least 8ga wire straight to the battery as already stated. If it doesn't sound good after hooking it all up, then you can see about turning your power down on the radio. (I always have a hi/lo pwr switch installed.) Oh yeah, run the amp on low. It will most likely swing more there and it won't run as hot, which will help it to last longer. I'd want a longer antenna, but the one you have should work.....longer will work better though.

You will need to run that direct +/- to the batter with 8ga wire and fise the + line right at the battery with a 50a fuse. You will need a coax to connect from radio to amp preferably 3 or 6', antenna coax will plug into the antenna marked side of the amp.
The TNT350 is a high drive amplifier. Your 68 as it is will drive it very lightly. The amp has a low and high output. Expect 30w carrier (keying mic not speaking) and 150w peak (talking power) on low power, 80w carrier and 250w peak from the hi power position. -
Then should I just go with a lower wattage model like the TNT100 or the TNT250?
-
Actually no. IMO I'd get the 350. It's a very versatile amp and works with MANY different radios. Plus with the light drive of the 68, as long as you keep a low swr the amp should last you a lifetime.
