get 1 year OTR (or even better flatbed) experiance and call Lone Star Transportation, you have to be 22 years old or older and have at least 1 year OTR. They're specialized Flatbed and Heavy Haul company (if you dont have Flatbed Exp they will train you) 80% of their freight is Oversize. I made GREAT money working there and recomend it to anyone looking for that kinda work.

I KNOW you are not talking about hauling mobile homes...
I hauled the very LAST floor out of Skyline in Howe Indiana in 1998, I hauled the very LAST floor out of Fleetwood in Glendale Arizona in 2006.
Times were good for a few years, I was buying crawlers and putting BnG hitches on new trucks one after the other...
But now, thats a dead industry. Bankrupted me, it killed my dad. Its nice having a million dollars worth of equipment sitting in a yard for months at a time then when you do work you get $5 per mile ONE WAY then deadhead home... Cant get more than 400 miles a day, get to the homesite then unload your $70,000 crawler from your $150,000 truck and work 8 hours for free.
Your competition has no crawler and a $4,000 1972 Freightliner COE with no insurance. Try competing with that.

    **Rant over**

Can you tell I have some reservations about mobile home moving?

    U4EA Thanks this.

Sometimes I put both feet on the dash to get enough leverage to pull it in to gear.

My dream job would be the kind that don't exist! Like running for the U.S. Govt' "Ghost Fleet" and or Secret Service. Not sure about pay, probably sucks, but you can be practically omnipotent going down the road. No HOS, no local authority can shut you down, scale houses become a non issue, roadsides?, not anymore! A big money NASCAR Team Hauler might be a good gig too, if ya' like racing.

Heck! someone has to haul supplies into Area 51 :biggrin_25524:

They still follow the same rules. The only difference is their rules are just copied from the FMCSA and put under their own authority. When I knew them they ran three people in the cab and worked an 8 hour shift. Thet'd go 8 hrs driving, 8 hrs in the bunk, and 8 hrs in the passenger seat. Just like anyone else they have to be moving to make the big money. With the world the way it is today they do not get the miles they used to get a few years back. They train the drivers on a simulator and they told us many years ago that they would not hire truck drivers because they came with bad habits for this type of work. They want military, young, and able to quilify to be a Federal Officer. It's a rewarding job but you will not get rich doing it.

Area 51 gets their supplies just like anyone else. We used to deliver diesel to them. The only difference was the driver had to have a clearance equal to confidential.
