I would never do it, but I see plenty of drivers on the Ohio turnpike routinely using there laptops and/or watching movies while driving. Not to single any specific group out but I will anyway, usually its a Chicago area Volvo from a garbage company with a foreign driver.
I figure this is against the law but what type of violation is this if any?
Laptop while driving?

I saw 3 different ones on I 80 before the split to 94 in Chicago going west. You could see the movie as you passed each one.
They were not foreign drivers or a volvo. -
I have wondered about it as well. I see that occasionally as well in the Twin Cities myself.

Ya see the cops looking at and using there laptops while driving in the night time going to a accident scenes and smashing the units up on the way before they get there.
What would happen if it was a driver in a semi was using there laptops while driving?

Saw two in a semi and one in a trailer transport pickup on 94 today.

Distracted driving/reckless driving. The state patrol will look into your mirrors while they come up to pass you so they can catch you doing this kind of thing. I stilll see drivers talking on hand held cells daily. If I tried this crap they'd throw me under the jail.

Mines on all the time. The company I mainly haul for has a scripted website and will update every minute or so. When loads pop up that fit my predetermined criteria the site will alert me. Not anymore distracting than another truck passing you, only takes a second to glance at the pickup/destination points and accept/reject it with one click. Some loads give me 5 minutes to decide and some loads are being offered to several carriers at the same time. Not having it on can cost me thousands a day in lost loads.
As far as a "law" I suppose it would fall under distracted driving, same as if you crashed while eating a cheeseburger. Some people can handle it and some can't. I see just as many people swerve when a truck passes or a bird flies by. -
I would consider putting in a ram mount but more for using the computer for navigation. Much bigger screen to see things.
But the phone is working just fine for me honestly.
More common for me to see cars "multi-tasking" than anything.
Say a lady in Council Bluffs IA today. Reading a magazine, conversation in the back seat with one passenger looking at a magazine, another conversation looking at a magazine with the front seat passenger, texting on her cell phone.
Yeah, I slowed down to get away from her. -
But are you watching a movie?
-
Thats like saying you got a text message and you read it. Its still distracted driving because you took your eyes off the road.
