Have you ever pulled hazardous wastes? You ever pulled an inhalation toxin so deadly that a very minute PPM atmosphere from a leak so small you'd never know it would kill you and anyone else in the area? If you haven't, remove yourself from the discussion on constantly being concerned about your load.

I did not realize this thread was all about hazardous wastes and inhalation hazards. Maybe a new thread should be started since the original poster was looking for freight companies that carry hazmat.. And possibly hire drivers that are new the the industry.

Being scared of the load, and "respecting" the load are two different things.. Thats what Marc is trying to say.. You don't want to be afraid of it and nervous everytime you yank out of a yard, because thats when accidents happen.
Before you ask, no I have never hauled a load of HAZMAT. But I've work in many areas where they have these said chemicals and what not. Inmetco in Ellwood City, PA burns batteries.. worked there, where you have to wear tyvek and a hell hood everywhere you go.. so I understand the constant threat of doing the wrong thing.
ramkatral, Im pretty positive thats what you mean anyhow.. Respect it, not fear it. -
Marc, you miss several points yourself here bud.
1.If you're hauling Chemical tank you dam well better always be "worried" about your cargo. Not only the potential danger of the chemical itself but the fact that you're hauling a non-compartmented trailer and the fact that it has to be kept in a very narrow heat range. Hazmat is not a load and forget about it commodity.... and you can roll a smooth bore tanker at 5mph if you mess up on the throttle. You never, ever better ignore those facts.
2. Agressive training? That's another way of saying "cut corners". No, definitely not. Don't forget that the whole point of training is to have you out there alone and competent. If someone puts you out there before you're ready then they're playing with your life.
The whole point is do not go jumping into things like this right out of school. It's a big layer of complexities you don't need right away. Take your year doing something simpler and get your driving skills down pat first. Once you've done that then it's time to look for other things.
Nobody needs to fail at the first job you get.ramkatral Thanks this. -
Well respectfully I disagree with worrying about cargo, I respect it for what it can do and in the case of an emergency I would do what I can. However I do agree that it is a good idea to get some driving experience before you get involved with HAZMAT but its your choice to do what you want.
