All in all Landstar is a good egg. They are troubled from time to time with negligent agents and bco's. Sometimes the customers want and expect you to do illegal stuff. That is because Landstar has their fingers in everything. At the end of the day, the good bco's are retained and the bad agents and bco's are let go. Illegal activity is not suggested or condoned and the burden is on the free bco to do the right thing. After working at numerous carriers, I like Landstar. They aren't perfect, but they will do for me.

OK. We have a small trucking company and was told that Landstar was a great company to haul for. We've been trying to get going for two months now and I just keep hitting a wall. :biggrin_25510:

This is what we've done so far:

    1. Found a Landstar Broker that said he could help walk us through registration.
    2. Submitted all the Landstar Documents to get Qualified.
    3. Signed up for the ComData/SavingsPlus Card & got the PIN, etc.

We were told by Landstar that we were Qualified.

We found out that our company was listed on the Landstar Broker Website when they searched for our company name but could not find us using the 'Truck Number' we were to get from Landstar.

We were then told that we could not get dispatched until we get a "Truck Number" but we've been told a number of conflicting things about this ranging from our Truck Number being the number WE give the truck to needing to get Landstar to come out and inspect our equipment in person and be issued one.

Every time I contact someone at Landstar, I'm directed to someone else that sends me documentation to fill out that conflicts with what we were sent the previous contact.

For example, in the Packet that came with our ComData/SavingsPlus card they included a form to fill out for "Direct Deposit" that, it turns out, makes it so you can't use the ComData/SavingsPlus card.

They send documents that cancel out the primary reason why we got the packet in the first place. :biggrin_2556:

    I'm so confused...

We have a driver all set up to go but we just can't seem to get anyone to help us figure out what we ACTUALLY NEED to get going.

We've heard so many good things about Landstar that I'm shocked it is this hard to get going! :biggrin_2555:

Can you help walk me through the process and help me figure out what else we need to do to get going?

I am a little confused. Are you wanting to lease to Landstar or broker loads from them running your own authority? If you have your own authority you can broker loads from them or any other broker. All you need is to provide them a copy of your authority, W9, Insurance certificate and a signed contract that they will send you. They should not need a truck number unless you actually book a load with them and the agent asks for it. Sometimes, they only need a trailer number. You may not even be asked for a truck or trailer number.

Landstar does lease on fleet owners who have more than one truck. That is a different contract. Your company will first need to get qualified and then each of your drivers will need to be qualified by Landstar.

The Savings Plus program is for those who have their authority. BCO's (owner operators) have LCAPP and a different comdata card. Landstar assigns a truck number to all BCO's. I believe that you can provide your own trailer number.

If you run your own authority then you need to get in touch with carrier services. If you are leasing to them you need to call your recruiter. If you are already approved as a BCO, then you may be able to get in touch with corporate in Jacksonville and ask them what you need. If you have orientation set up you might even call the orientation center and ask them what else you may need.

Keep on them. Call them every other day, if not every day and be the squeaky wheel.

It varies by the load and by the agent. No telling and no way to tell.
