One tank is good yet the other is now leaking where the straps are. Is there a way to isolate the leaking right side tank for now untill repaired?

Seems turning the valve off at the bottom causes alot of issues, ends up taking all fuel from left side and dumping it into the right.... :biggrin_25510:

Finally, 1 fuel gauge with a 3 position switch that shows right and left tanks then a center position. Does this do something besides show the level of the tank??

You need a shutoff on the return line as well as the suction. The three position switch does nothing other than show the level in each tank. Hope that helps.

Yes it does help, also makes me ask how do the tanks equalize when you fill just one? Somehow through the 2 suction lines?

Screw up was only turning the suction off, return wasn't shut down as I was thinking there was a primary and secondary tanks. Always sucking from 1 and returning to the 1.

    Thx!

It equalizes through a splitter valve(mine is behind the trans), mounted on the cross member. I've been running one tank for years, as long as both the suction and return are turned off to the other tank, it won't hurt a thing.

Mine just started leaking in the same place today. Right tank, rear strap. Am guessing the rivets on the strap pushed through the liner & then rubbed the tank. Truck is '03 Pete 385. Just curious if you guys dropped the tank to weld & replace liner or if you just went to a salvage yard to get a different tank?

    Any info appreciated.

Updating: Have found someone to repair the tank. Have to go to CO from IL first though & cannot locate the return line valve. Was going to shut that tank off. Only valve is at the bottom for the suction line & the crossover is more of a union where four lines meet. No shut offs there either.

Had a leak in the same spot on my 05 379. Unfortunately, the metal around the leak was too far gone to weld. Peterbilt wanted almost two grand for a new tank. The salvage yard wanted 700 for a used tank. I was able to split the difference by getting a brand new aftermarket tank for 900 bucks. Only difference is the aftermarket tank doesn't say Peterbilt on it. It looks and works great.
